 Dark Moon Weyr

My personal Recommendation to anyone who's lingering :P

Facing the threat of dying out, renegades, egg theft, abandonment, and betrayal, this little Weyr in the Southern Continent is no stranger to adversity. The riders that have remained are hardy and close, more like a family than a Weyr. The young Queen and her rider, and the even younger Junior Weyrwoman barely out of Weyrlinghood lead a weyr that is becoming well known for strange colors emerging from the Senior Queen's clutch.

Dark Moon Weyr is set in an alternative reality where AVIAS has not been discovered and Thread has not fallen in well over 400 Turns. The people of Pern believe that it is gone for good and many view the dragonriders as nuisances. However, the Red Star is looming ever closer, the Queens' clutches are getting larger and the dragons sense danger. The riders are frantically trying to train with techniques found in records and much information has been lost.

Come to see Dark Moon weyr, and join its close-knit family of riders. With the newly hatched clutch and the flight of the Junior Queen looming on the horizon, Dark Moon has much to do. The third Hatching happened during a Hurricane and the weyr must help to rebuild the part of the Southern continent that was ravaged by the storm and repair the damage that has been done to their Weyr. There is Thread to prepare for and supplies to replenish. It is certainly an interesting time to be a dragonrider.

A new Hold has opened in the forum and we are accepting applications for Holders, Craftsmen, and other positions. We are also accepting applications for riders, Candidates and Weyrfolk for the Weyr. We are also accepting applications for Wher Handlers and Candidates for the Wher Hold attached to Caspian Hold.

Notes:
Wings of Pern hosts several Weyrs, four at the moment (Crystal Cavern, headed by Mittens, New Cove, belonging to Squid, Talune is Onyx's territory, and Eden is Desert's oasis), each with it's own special asortment of non-canon colors. Currently we're in need of... um... a lot of stuff. We've not been open long, after all.

What We Have, and Can Offer:
- Most of us are active, and the ones who aren't don't have long before they're kicked out, so we don't have inactive threads and characters floating around. (Unless they give us a warning, anyway.)

- A very cool plot, but uncomplicated and it's easy to follow. (Will post below). It leaves open plenty of opportunity for your character's backgrounds.

- Everyone is very nice, and we don't mind helping out newbies. Ask a question, and you will get a polite, at the very least (some of us are too friendly sometimes xD) answer. If it's not polite, then let someone know! 'Kay?

- Lots and lots of open positions, including at least one Weyrwoman, several Wingleaders, and lots of other random positions (Head Woman, Head Cook, Weyrling and Candidate Masters, ect.). Well, we do have four Weyrs to fill, plus more yet to be made (for those interested in creating a Weyr, PM Mittens)... Plus there may possibly be Mod positions left.

Plotline:
When mankind first discovered Pern, many a turn ago, they colonized a single continent, known as the South Continent. Thread drove the away from there, to the harsher climates of the North Continent. To fight the parasitic organizms that fell from the sky, eating anything that wasn't stone, metal, or water, mankind developed a creature, resembling one of myth from their home Terran. The dragons. Bonded telepathically to their riders, and witht he help of a phosphorine rich rock, they could breath fire, and so sear away the Thread. Above and beyond even this great ability, the dragons could fly, and teleport, meaning that they were capable of going anywhere on Pern, and manuevering quickly while fighting the Thread. To be a dragonrider meant to leave the life you had lead before, to show utter dedication, and to live among other riders.

As time passed man forgot their origins, struggling to with the battle againt their foe from the Red Star. Those who were not riders of dragons, held land and Hold, or made the essentials for life in Halls. Those who weren't dragonriders tithed to the Weyrs, to show gratitude for the dangerous work they did. Until a long interval occured, much longer than ever before. The red star did not return at it's scheduled time, and so turn after turn with no Thread falling, the dragonriders seemed to become obsolete. Tithing slowed, and nearly stopped, respect for those of the Weyr vanished. It was they who were called parasites instead of the Thread.

But luck would have it that one Gold and her rider knew different, were determined that Thread would soon fall again, and that they had to be ready. At her Side a Bronze, larger than anything before him, and for some time after. It was they who made it possible to survive when the Therad fell once more, and it was the Gold and her rider who discovered the ability to time as well as teleport.

With the dragonriders in good standing once more, turns came and went, and again, with time passing, came another change to Pern. The dragons were mutating, their colors ranging away from Gold, Bronze, Brown, Blue, and Green. Endless possibilities came, some dragons having adaptations to thier bodies, giving them a specialized task, others seemed smarter than even the riders at times. With the mutations on Pern, it seemed that nothing could go wrong.

Then once more misery struck, this time in the form of a Plague that took all of Pern by suprise. It killed thousands, riders, dragons, holders, any and everyone seemed to be at risk. Only by a miracle did anyone survive, and with numbers depleted harshly, the future looked grim.

By now botht he North and South continent were occupied, though many Weyrs turned up empty, as did Holds and even Halls. By chance and chance alone, a young queenrider made a mistake in her destination while going Between. She had been going to the nearby Hold, hoping that perhaps the Lord there would have news for her, only to find herself in an entirely new place. The East Continent was discovered. The East Continent was more wooded, heavily so, almost as if a tropical forest occupied most of the land, with three large volcanos, each long dormant, but perfect to make Weyrs in. The soil was rich, and many of the plants already growing were edible or of value for medicinal purposes. The East Continent was soon colonized, and three Weyrs were built there.

In the North four weyrs were struggling to survive, and slowly managed to get a meager grip on stability. The South fared similar, with three Weyrs of it's own. It is here that we begin, Pern overcomming a terrible plague, a new land discovered, and endless possibilites, dampered only by the fact that The Red Star is hanging in the sky, and Thread will soon fall.

Aleda and Silvio stayed at the Weyr through the winter with the small group of Caminar who remained. Come spring though the call of the road proved to be too much for both of them. They set off together in Aleda's wagon and started up a new caravan with other young Caminar trying to bridge the gap between Caminar and plantado culture.

All rafeiro are welcome in their caravan and the pejorative has been adopted as the 'family name' of the train. Telgar Weyr is a frequent stop on their route and a permanent base camp has been built up at the foot of the mountains where the Weyr is housed. Aleda often spends time here teaching her knowledge to other young Caminar who've left the main Caminar group, rafeiro or some plantado healers wanting to learn the ways of the sabedoria. She has never married, but eventually bore two sons and a daughter with a more than passing resemblance to greenrider G'tet: Galedet, Gared and Alareda. On the anniversary of her return from traveling in time, Aleda lights a candle for Th'ane. She's also written down an account of the journey and her experience to pass down to her children.

Though still friends, Silvio and Genet eventually drifted apart and Silvio married his Caminar fiancee forging an uncertain bridge between the Rafeiro and the Caminar. They have their own wagon and Silvio grew to be an accomplished jeweler with a steady stream of sales along the caravan's route. Half a dozen children eventually joined the family and steady family life on the road seems to suit Silvio well.

Y'vor I didn't really get to inhabit much, but I'm sure he's still out there gambling ably and putting on an aerial show with his nimble brown.

I don't have a fancy advertisement to reel people in with. That has never been my style anyway. But I can tell you a little bit about this site and why you should join in a very straight forward, matter of fact way.

You might have seen our ads before, you know, the 1,000 page behemoths. You might have been intimidated, you might have seen our site as a huge maze with a closely knit roleplaying clique, hell you might have thought of us as a bunch of elitists. I'm just here to tell you that's not the case. It's time to check us out again because a lot has happened since the demise of Avidgamers.

Long story short there is a new administration - the torch has been passed to a few able bodies including myself and we have some really exciting ideas for the future of Yung. Now more than ever is a perfect chance to apply. If you recall us from those long lost days of Avidgamers, we had some pretty high standards, and stuck to a pretty tight male to female ratio - well we are ready to make a deal.

If you can apply, and wow us with your male character, and really get in there and plot with us (because we love torturing our characters), then we'll be glad to take a female character. We just want you to prove yourself to us. Not too much to ask now is it?

Check us out: www.yungweyr.net

Hey folks. As you have probably noticed, we're having a hard time keeping Tempus Fugit running in accordance with its goals. As such, we will be closing Tempus Fugit effective November 7, 2008. The boards will remain open for folks to post even after that date, so if you wish to pursue scenes with your existing characters you may certainly do so, but no new plots will be designed or run, and no new applications will be accepted.

We welcome players to write scenes or vignettes 'ending' their characters' stories if they like. Feel free to take liberties with the canon of the game in writing these endings - not everyone's need match. The Pern of Tempus Fugit exists in many different timelines, after all. ;)

Some background for the curious: When Tabula Rasa and I opened the game, we envisioned a Pern game focused on the effects of time travel taken to the extreme. We designed two groups of Pernese people who would perceive time discrepancies (paradox) in a more conscious, affected way than the people in Anne's books (who don't even know that time was changed, because the world 'always was that way', whenever changes in the timeline occur).

We also designed two individuals, members of the mysterious Eridani race, with the ability to influence - control, even - certain members of one of these groups of people. You may have guessed that Duarte, J'fel, and Rosé have all at times been under this control, and conversed with the PCs during such influence.

These individuals had their own goals for the world of Pern - goals at conflict with one another. Our names - "Clean Slate" and "All Pure" - were not chosen at random! Over time, with the unwitting help of PCs, they sought to change Pern for 'the better'. Their goals would have seen the PCs setting into motion events that might obliterate dragonkind, humankind, or even Thread on Pern... if the PCs agreed. Eventually, we believe the PCs would have got wise to these manipulations, and discovering the true natures of these individuals would have become the focus of the game.

Between us, Invisible and I have considerable experience with high-concept plots and tabletop-style RPGs. Unfortunately, after some effort, we have come to the conclusion that the forum venue just isn't the right way to run this kind of campaign. Player turnover, relatively slow response time and a focus on personal storytelling are all features of the forum format that make for excellent character development but do not help with large-scale campaigns. In short, Tempus Fugit can't be what we wanted it to be - and this is the fundamental reason for the closure of the game.

I would like to thank Tabula Rasa and Invisible for their respective help running the game. We also want to thank all of you who stuck it out throughout TF's (short) life, who made our hatching and initial plot arc successful, and who have just been a ton of fun to play with. We'll see you around. :)

 Candidate Sarsya
« Result #6 on Nov 4, 2008, 12:37am »

Name: Sarsya
Gender: Female
Age: 18
Rank: Candidate/Senior Apprentice Healer
Wing: N/A

Physical Description

Sarsya stands at 5'7", with a medium skeletal frame. She weighs 148 pounds. She has short copper hair and dark blue eyes. She keeps her hair cut to the bottom of her earlobes. She has muscle from the chores she is assigned while in Candidacy. She is on the slender side from moving around a lot and having a fast metabolism. Which also means, she has a big appetite! She has an olive complexion that makes her tan really nicely. Though her skin is already nicely tanned, with a soft coppery glow to her skin.

She has a small box at the very bottom of her travel trunk. It’s a nice dark rosewood color with her name engraved on the top. She keeps all of her jewelry in it. She always wears a simple silver necklace that has her name engraved on it. She had received it as a gift from her parents on her 15 th birthing day. It also has a ring to match. She saves the rest of her jewelry, though not much, to wear for special occasions. She has a leather hide belt she wears all the time. It was a gift from her brother before she left when she had been Searched.

She is mostly seen in a tunic and pants. Sarsya doesn't usually dress up unless it is for a Gather or Hatching or some other occasion. She has a nice red dress that she keeps at the bottom of her travel trunk and wears that dress for those special occasions. When she is attending chores she wears a simple dark copper tunic with black or reddish brown trousers. She likes to wear dark colors and will sometimes be seen in lighter colors during the summer months, when it’s warmer. She has a leather jerkin vest that was dyed to a light yellow coloring that she wears every now and then. The inside of the jerkin vest is done up in wherry feathers to keep the body warm during the winter. It’s her favorite vest.

Personality

Sarsya is a confidant, tomboyish, and stubborn young lady. She is confidant in her abilities as a person and will not listen to anyone that bullies her. She is her own person and she knows it. She is polite and considerate, not one that resorts to bullying another person into doing something. She’ll ask. If the person says ‘no’, then she’ll leave it at that. She is one of the few girls that isn’t afraid to get dirty and isn’t afraid to wrestle either. She simply loves the challenge of getting physical to try and best her opponent, male or female. Though she has yet to meet another female that would wrestle with her.

She is stubborn when it comes to something she has set her mind to. And nothing will change her mind. She loves children and babies of any species. She hopes to have a child or two when she’s older but she has the patience to wait and she uses it when dealing with children. She had been told by one or two older women that she would make a wonderful mother should she have any children of her own and takes those words to heart. She hopes to impress and is wanting to try for a fire lizard, but she hasn’t been lucky with either yet. She has a crush on a male Candidate, but she’s not telling.

Background

Sarsya was born as the third child of six. She was born at Telgar Hold to a Journeyman Healer, Sara, and a Journeyman Smith, Saryan. She was always on the move almost right after birth. She could not keep still for a full ten minutes. She was running with the group of children pulling pranks or finding some kind of mischief.

Though she wasn’t the prank kind of child. She had never pulled a prank on anyone. She was just with them for the laughs. Or the punishment when caught, since she was with them. She loved to go for rides on runners at the age of six turns. Her oldest brother, Ryarn, taught her to ride in his spare time. And she loved it every moment of it. She loved to play tag and seek with the other brats of Star Hold. She had a major accident at the age of five turns. She was running along a trail near the Hold and tripped. She gauged her left leg terribly and it required several stitches. She was kept in the Infirmary for several days until it had healed. Though it left a nasty scar. Even after it had healed, it didn’t slow her down.

By the time she was ten turns, she had her fair share of bumps and bruises from running around and rough-housing. She even had to have her left pinky be reset when it had popped out of place when she had tried to break her fall once. She had tripped on a rock and fell. She had lied when asked what she had been doing. She had actually been sneaking around the stables. She apprenticed to the Healer craft at the age of 12. She was searched at the age of 16 and taken to the newly completed Telgar Weyr.

 Marketa Island Weyr
« Result #7 on Nov 2, 2008, 6:36pm »

Wind Blossom felt sorry for the people that were outlawed to the islands, so she created dragons to protect them, though none of them turned out right. One batch turned out to be miniature Pink dragons, one turned out to be Aqua colored water loving dragon, and the last batch turned out to be a bunch of colors. Wind Blossom felt discouraged and so she hid them away in the islands, to give as much protection from thread as they could to the people outlawed to the Islands.

Slowly Marketa developed its social standings, the challenges for Weyrwoman and Weyrleader became a tradition and the little Pinks were scorned until they became like drudges. And, the wild ones, the dragons that hadn't impressed because there weren't enough people to impress to. All of this happened and yet no one left the islands because they had always been warned, don't leave the islands or something bad will happen. The first Islanders had believed that the rest of Pern would hate them, and so they had always warned their children.

Sadly enough, by Tenth Pass of Pern, the warnings had grown dim and the Weyrwoman, an Emerald rider, Ketaria and Figlith, at the time were curious about the rest of Pern. They left and found a beautiful continent, and found hostility too. People considered them different and started flocking to the islands to find the amazing island dragons. What they found was hostile wild dragons and a new, hostile Weyrwoman, Gemdra and Scarlet Hecth. Gemdra didn't want anyone on her island and her mate and the Weyrleader, K'yil and Fire Vedth, would kill all intruders. The continental riders developed a Weyr nearby to watch these hostile islanders, and sadly enough, hostility was also developed against Ketaria because of the actions of her kind. During the night, an unkpwn person killed her dragon, and dragons around Pern all keened for the dead dragon that hadn't managed to between. Ketaria found herself with enemies all around her, or so she felt, and she didn't have her beloved Figlith anymore, so she stayed with her dragon as they were taken between.

Hecth and Gemdra both began to feel sorry for the continental dragons as they died to the claws of Vedth. Gemdra loved K'yil's Fire and yet she couldn't stand the killing, so in the middle of the night, she killed him, and then she killed herself, right there beside her fiery love. Vedth immediately started keening, and with a hateful glance at Hecth, Vedth went between, carrying His with him. Hecth, on the other hand, was watching her clutch of 22 eggs, and could only keen. She took Hers between and yet she came back, to watch over the eggs. Sadly she laid there watching, as continentals stepped onto the island and planned take over, as the new Weyrwoman, whose dragon had just flown, Midnightrider Macara and Xetreth, dealed with the continentals by telling them that the rest of the Weyr couldn't be blamed because of what the Weyrleaders had done. Macara promised that no one else would be killed, and so Glory Island happily thrived and New Hold was founded, and the 22 eggs hatched, and Hecth took off into between, at last.

Macara found herself challenged by a Goldrider and by a Scarlet to whose dragon would fly first. Macara didn't want to not accept the flight challenge and have a fight for Weyrwoman, especially not with her weyrmate being the only Tealrider in the Weyr at the moment since the few Teals born normally went wild because of their personalities. Macara ended up accepting the challenge, knowing that Xetreth would not be the one to win just to save her weyrmate's life. He weyrmate, G'bel and Teal Tarnith were not to happy about her choice, but she would not risk her weyrmate's life.

The Scarlet ended up winning and her fiery mate became the Weyrleader. She will clutch soon and they plan on getting Candidates form the Hold set up on New Island. The clutch has hatched and life goes on, or does it?

A new Scarlet flies but not for weyrwoman. After her flies a continental brown dragon, a stranger to the island dragons. What will happen if this strange brown catches the Scarlet?

What no-one thinks about is how the little Pinks feel. How their riders feel outraged that their gorgeous dragons and them must suffer such fates. What Weyrwoman is any good when she doesn't listen to everybody's complaints? They are riders too.

We are a Weyr with a whole new color scheme along with the old and we are an alternate later years Pern (everything up to end of sixth pass happened, past that.... it didn't).

Solaria Weyr

Founded in Turn 165 of the Sixth Interval, Solaria Weyr is the seventh Weyr of Pern. Though planned to house the overspill of other Weyrs, it is also a Weyr in its own right, and protects its own land. It was established in an extinct volcano on the Southern continent, on a tip of land by near Great Bay. Riders were eager to request a transfer to it when it was populated, lured by the prospect of tropical weather.

Now, the Red Star has been framed by the Eye Rock at the beginning of the Turn, and to many that is proof enough that Thread is returning for an Eighth Pass. For others, however, this is not proof enough: after all, there have been 200 Thread-free Turns, so surely it is not going to fall again? But clutches have started to become more frequent and larger in size, and thanks to the insistence of Weyrleaders traditional training has been continued so that the Weyr is prepared to fight Thread, despite its low numbers.

Tragically, Senior Weyrwoman Miori suffered a heart attack not long before the hatching of her dragon's clutch, and slipped into a coma. Although all eighteen eggs hatched healthy dragons, only a few days later Miori passed on. Almerion is now the interim Senior with T'niel remaining as Weyrleader. But with the arrival of a transfer goldrider, Levay, will Solaria's next senior Weyrwoman be native or foreign? And who will become Weyrleader?

Within sevendays of Levay's arrival, Wingleader T'kevi was out on sweeps when he discovered crackdust, confirming Thread's return. Pern must now prepare itself to meet its oldest enemy, but is it ready?

Other events that have occured within the last fifteen Turns include females Impressing to greens and even to blues, though the latter is still extremely rare. Even female Impressions to green are not that common – old ways of thinking are still holding strong in some places, and girls are often forbidden by their families to accept Search when there is no gold egg. Likewise, many Crafts are prejudiced against female members.

Solaria Weyr is a canon, AU role-play game based on the ‘Dragonriders of Pern’ series of books by Anne McCaffrey. Our aim is to provide a fun game with interesting plots that involve everyone, no matter what character they may play. This is the second incarnation of canon Solaria Weyr, and some of our history reflects what has occurred in the first incarnation.

Presently, we are particularly looking for a number of character concepts. We have a rare female bluerider up for adoption, several female greenriders available, and we are also seeking characters to fill Wingsecond positions, among others. A full list can be seen here.

The details of the most recent clutch, gold Ilayth and bronze Vroleith's, including the full information on the PC dragons, can be seen here.

Our address is http://solariaweyr.proboards74.com, and we are happy to answer any questions in the site’s Cbox.

Hope to see you around!

Shattermaw Weyr is a brand new, just opened, utterly non-canon Weyr. Shattermaw's aim is to provide a place for people to hang out and have fun with whatever they choose to play, while still having an underlying, dramatic plot to fuel interesting events and discoveries. Everyone is welcome, and there will hopefully be something interesting--and unusual!--for everyone.

Hundreds of Turns past the End of Thread...

...the skies have once again borne a strange and deadly enemy to Pern.

Aivas's gifts of technology are all but lost. The Weyrs are gone. The Holds are gone. Pern is under the control of a hostile invading race, the insectile Cetch, and they want nothing more than to eliminate every other thinking creature on Pern and have it for themselves.

Shattermaw Weyr is the last stand for Pern. Tucked into a sheltered mountain, it has lasted for over 40 turns against the vicious Cetch, though not without its setbacks. Desperately in need of more riders in the fight against the Cetch, their efforts at finding Candidates has redoubled in recent turns, and none--not even the least likely--can they afford to turn away from the Sands.

Fire-lizards and whers as they once were are extinct; fire-lizards have split into the semi-aquatic shardakes and the sky-master windrakes, and the fate of whers is still unknown.

Strange creatures known as skybix have been bonding with riders, though much about them is still unknown--and they are extremely rare, difficult and dangerous to find.

Dragons have changed--the rules for dragons are wildly different, colors are unpredictable, male Golds fly the skies and Impression is utterly unpredictable. Anyone at all seems to have infinite possibilities for Impression.

There are many more secrets that this strange new Pern holds, merely waiting to be discovered. Anyone at all could find themselves uncovering the key to victory over the Cetch, or the key to their own destruction...

A clutch of 7 eggs is held on the sands, and candidates are needed to ensure the future of Pern!
