“Indeed. Shall I wait for you to visit him?” Ramla asked willing to cede the first visit to him. It would not cost her anything and would let him retain a sense of leadership. “In so much as I can anyway. If I were summoned I could not say no. But a social call? If you think it better to go first?” It was entirely up to him as Ramla could play it either way.
The question of where Ramla might draw lines was not one the headwoman wanted to answer. Growing up she could not afford many lines. Not if she wanted to remain at Crom and she had definitely wanted to remain at Crom. Over the turns she had learned which lines were absolute and which were situational. “I’ll not see someone undeserving suffer,” she finally answered.

"Very well," S'lyn answered simply. He finished what remained of his wine, watching Ramla over the rim of the glass. "But meet with J'fel whenever you can. I don't think it's something we need to coordinate, and I may move more slowly than you need to. Particularly when you already have a compelling reason to do so." He smiled slightly.

“As you wish, S’lyn. I just did not want to interfere with a plan I might not know about.” Ramla sounded nothing but courteous in this. She was, in fact, nothing but courteous. The headwoman did not expect to be aware of everything the wingleader might have planned and she did not wish to be. Best to be able to deny as much as she could later. Just in case. “With as many demands as the weyrleader has been making I am sure we will be speaking again soon.” Ramla would not roll her eyes, but she could imply such an act merely with her words. “This is quite the mess.” She allowed herself a small sigh with those words and took up her wine glass to have a drink.

S'lyn twisted his lips, the expression falling somewhere between 'sympathetic moue' and 'grimace of agreement.' "It's only to be expected that a young man new to the power that J'fel now has would try to push it as far as he can. Unfortunate that he takes it to the lengths he does," the ex-Weyrleader said dourly, "but to be expected." He paused a moment, then tried to balance his dig at J'fel with a self-deprecating jab. "Perhaps you remember when I first became Weyrleader and insisted on having hot soup brought to my quarters every morning. Always at the exact same time. I'm sure you cursed me for all the spills it caused, and all the vats of soup you had to deal with." His chuckle was light, wry, but genuine enough.

“Nonsense,” Ramla said with a forgiving smile. “Every new weyrleader will have his quirks. My predecessor told me to be prepared for it. Your request was hardly anything.” Perhaps implying what the current weyrleader requested was more. Even if it had not been. “He needs to grow into his power I am sure.” Should he be allowed to goes unsaid entirely if only because Ramla rather liked the handsome weyrleader and saw no reason to wish him ill. If only he’d deal with the Caminar. “We must just be patient I suppose. Hope he can listen to his elders and steer clear of the worst mistakes.”

"He listens, I sometimes think, too much." Setting his hands on the armrests of his chair, he pushed himself up. Pleasant chat was nice enough, but he had other business to attend to, and imagined Ramla did as well. "It's been pleasant visiting with you, Headwoman, but I should go before it gets too late. Please let me know if there's anything you need to proceed on the Caminar, and whether you learn anything enlightening from your next talk with J'fel."

When S’lyn made to leave Ramla rose from her chair. “Of course, forgive me for keeping you from your work,” she said all smiles and apology. “It was a pleasure to speak with you and should I require anything in our endeavor you might assist with I will send you word.” When they reached the door she opened it and held it for him. “Should I learn of anything useful I will pass it on. We shall succeed in this.”

"Yes, we will." S'lyn had no doubt about that. Offering a polite bow to Ramla, he stepped back from her door and returned down the hallway he had come from.
