C'cao Had C'cao known what it was he might have just done to G'tet, he showed little sign of it. The frank fact was that he didn't: he had never had much in the way of dealings with the other greenrider, and though he had an inkling of what might happen if Genet got into her brother's weyr, it wasn't much his concern. Still, he pursed his lips thoughtfully as he titled his head toward her.
"I'll be careful of searching another's weyr such if I were you. We pick our weyrs for the reason of getting some privacy, whether from friends or family. And yes, we are allowed to chooes, though the choice differs for riders depending on the color you ride."
Opheriath sent small wavelets of happy mental thrills through C'cao and Genet as she settled her wings beside her and let her tail curl cheerily up and down. The greenrider paused a moment as he realized what he had forgotten.
"Oh, and would you like a drink? I have klah and some teas, depending on your preference."

“Oh, G’tet knows I’ll go through his things,” Genet says with a wave of her hand to dismiss concerns about privacy. “I’m his sister. I always go through his things. Since we were little kids. If I don’t he’ll think I don’t love him anymore or something like that.” It was unspoken that Genet found it entirely unfair that her brother had his own space and she did not have hers. Which was why she was going to go through his things, of course. Well, that and she’s nosy.
“Oh. Umm. Klah would be nice, thank you very much.” Because, of course, the woman needed more to make her hyper. So long as Opheriath seemed happy to have her head rubbed Genet was willing to comply. Well, until her arm got numb and her hand fell asleep. But until then she was quite game for it! “Everything here depends on the color of your dragon though doesn’t it?” she asked getting back to the conversation. “What about if someone isn’t suited for some position they might be handed because of their dragon?”

C'cao The greenrider chuckled as he moved off placidly to accede to her request. A nearby table held a rough-made stove and a kettle. Lighting the stove and filling the heavy metal pot, he called back over a shoulder to Genet.
"Well, I guess you know your brother best. G'tet and I were weyrlings together, back when I first Impressed to Opheriath. Can't say I was too close to him, but we were on cordial terms."
Leaving the water to boil, he made his way back to his chair. His green was only too happy to drive Genet's hand into exhuastion - she was enjoying the rubbing fully. C'cao smiled at the dragon and, mindful of his guest, sent a gentle request to her. Opheriath opened her half-lidded eyes, and with a most regretful air she withdrew her head, watching Genet with gentle, wistful eyes. The greenrider turned back to the girl as she asked her question.
"Well, most of us make do with what fate has given us," his tone was mild, "And even if there are some who will fret at what they have, very few - none in fact, will say that they despise their lifemate for their colour. It's something you'll understand as a rider: you never regret having your dragon, no matter what colour it is."

“Known him all my life,” Genet says with a grin. “And he will so pay for leaving me.” Revenge would come, oh, most definitely. But for now she pushed those thoughts aside. After all he was not around so she could do nothing but plot. When Opheriath moved away she wiggled her fingers and rested her hand in her lap. The green got a smile from her because she had been no trouble at all and Genet assumed that the dragon was just done being petted.
“Well,” she told C’cao cheerfully, “I’ll never understand that not being a rider, but I guess I see your point.” The point was carefully thought over before she shook her head. “It just seems weird. I mean, I know plenty is decided in a hold based on your family, but in a Weyr it’s all up to the dragon that picks you. Your entire life is decided in an instant. That’s just weird to me. I can’t imagine it.”

C'cao C'cao had raised a brow at Genet's mention of making G'tet pay for leaving her, but apart from that he gave no sign that her attitude towards her brother affected him in any way. He was not dense however, and even though he knew next to nothing about the relationship between the twins, he was beginning to make some very good guesses as to the nature of it. He nodded politely as Genet continued, and returned with the same mildness of tone present throughout their interaction.
"You are very honest - there are many who would try to tell me they understand, or at least understand in part."
He stood again as the kettle began to whistle, and again spoke over his shoulder as he went to get the pot, "I know it must seem strange to you too, how life is all decided in an instant by the colour of the dragon that will choose you. But somehow when you're in it, and living it, it's different. The dragon's mind in yours makes up for much of it. It's...good, clearer, when you know you'll never be quite alone again."
Opheriath raised her head at his remarks, her eyes whirling in agreement as strong as the sense of her approval washing across the room. C'cao smiled, softly, and began spooning klah powder into two mugs.

“I had my brother,” Genet offers with a thoughtful grin. “It’s not the same, but then I wouldn’t want him in my mind. Eww. What if we liked the same man and I knew? That would be horrid somehow.” Amusing as well judging by the woman’s tone. “I’ve never seen a reason to pretend to understand something one did not. I’ll never know what it’s like but I’m curious about it anyway. I mean, I am here now so I may as well be curious about new things. Otherwise what is the point in having wanted to get away from the hold?”
She watched him with the klah, considering the reasons for leaving and laughed. “Well, not having to marry a grandfather was a good reason for leaving I suppose. And being with G’tet again. Even if it’s not quite the same thing what with him having Kalpeth now. He doesn’t need me, you know?” Not like she needed him anyway. He had someone always and she had him when he was not busy with other things. Genet would never in a million years admit to needing her brother, but if she didn't then she would not be so anxious about his disappearance. “I guess though I kinda like my mind being my own. I can think some really odd stuff. Best if no one knows about it!”

C'cao The greenrider chuckled as he replaced the container of klah and began to lift the kettle to pour hot water into the mugs. His eyes remained on the task at hand even as he called back to his guest.
"Well, that's a thought, certainly, but it's not likely with a dragon since they won't like the same man as you...well, not in that way."
He dispensed with the rest of his task in concentrated silence, and then set the heavy kettle back on the stove with a soft sigh. Stirring the klah into each mug in turn, C'cao leaned lightly against the table as he looked back at Genet, eyes thoughtful.
"You're not like most other Hold girls I know - most of them have spirit, but have been quenched to the extent they don't seem to care much anymore. Some are lively, but most try not to think too much."
Tapping the sides of the mugs to check their temperature, C'cao took them by the handles and started back towards his guest, offering her one, "Perhaps it's your brother's influence, at any rate, but thinking seems to be a trait of yours."

“Ugh. I would hope not. Not that I spend that much time worrying about men.” Genet shook her head quickly to be sure he did not get the wrong idea. She was certainly not the sort of girl to go around mooning over every man she met. Well, she might, but she was over it just as quickly and it never came to anything. When he brought her cup over she took it with a grin and a polite, “Thank you.” Almost always a good guest and all.
“Now you’re just being insulting,” she said to the greenrider with a wink after hearing his last words. “All us hold girls think lots. It’s just many of us are smart enough to keep our mouths shut so we don’t get a beating. I just got used to the beatings.” They seemed to have little effect on her either since she can shrug the topic off before blowing on her klah and taking a cautious sip. Klah was nearly giggled out of her though at something he said and he had to wait a moment for her to collect herself before she explained why. “Oh, G’tet would say I think hardly at all. And if that’s true I am sure he was an influence on me!”

C'cao The greenrider chuckled again as he leaned back in his chair, sipping lightly at his klah. By the ledge, Opheriath had laid head on forepaws and was dozing lightly, half-shut eyes watching the pair conversing. C'cao lowered the mug and tilted his head at Genet.
"That's what I mean: quenched," he smiled, a wry, twisted sort of smile, "It's...not something I approve of, though knowing the Holder men they wouldn't hear a greenrider save to give him face. I stayed in Telgar Hold once. Turns ago now."
He took another sip, a small smile gracing the quiet features, and sighed, "If you say so - as I mentioned, you know your brother much better than I do, and..."
He paused. Opheriath had raised her head and was watching the skies over the Bowl. With a soft sigh of surprise, the greenrider rose and joined her, and then turned back to Genet.
"Time certainly passes fast! My Wing is assembling for practice - that means we met...about an hour ago."
He nodded towards the collection of dragons in the near distance, "Though, frankly, it's the 'Second who's been leading practice these few days. Th'ane hasn't been around too, and no one's very sure where he's gone."

The movement on the ledge caught Genet’s eye too even if she did not know what it meant. When it was explained to her she grinned and held out her cup. “Well, I had best leave this to you and be on my way then! I wouldn’t want to get you in trouble.” She rose to her feet and looked over at Opheriath. “It was a pleasure meeting you,” she tells the green before turning back to C’cao. “Thank you very much for speaking to me. I wouldn’t worry about holders. They’re likely just all jealous of you anyway!” Even a greenrider, after all, is better than just a holder.
When the cup was taken she would head for the door, smiling as she went. “Oh, well, Th’ane is it? Yes, I knew someone else was missing. Quite a few people. I wonder if the weyrleader will ever answer for all the disruption. Probably not.” Shoulders shrugged in a what can you do sort of fashion. “Not our place to think on it I imagine.” Her grin turned mischievous as she looked at the greenrider. “And I do know my place.”

C'cao The greenrider chuckled as he moved to start picking up Opheriath's harness, placed neatly on the other side of the room. Well, perhaps being a rider of any sort was always better than being a Holder, but then he knew of none who would be eager to become a greenrider. It was something that happened, and after that you dealt with it with no regrets. The dragon always made up for that.
Genet's next words made him pause however, and he reached out to tap her lightly on the shoulder before she could reach the door, "Wait. What do you mean by...others missing? There have been others....?"
Things clicked into place, and he frowned, "Yes, your brother has been missing too, hasn't he? Now, that is...interesting."

“C’cao, you have not been paying attention at all!” Genet accused with a merry laugh. “I said my brother was missing ages ago. Really, please do listen to what I say. It’s usually most important.” She may have slowed at the tap, but wasn’t going to come to a stop. “There are plenty missing. I am trying to find out what is going on. That’s my mission. I’d best get back to it now. You have a good day!” Then she sailed out the door whistling a merry tune.
