“A couple of days?” Maybe if tonight went well she might sneak back out for a bit. Unfortunately she’d just had her rest day so unless she could trade with someone- Well, it would depend on how tonight went. She suspected, no matter the horror stories told her by her sisters, it might be worth it to miss a seven’s rest day to get to come back out. Hopefully. If it was as horrible as they said she’d be so disappointed.
But those considerations were for herself. Several times she’d been tempted to bring up what might happen, but was afraid it would make her seem too eager or too worried or too ignorant. As she plunked down on the ground near the fire she laughed merrily. “Be quiet? Now you’ve forgotten what girl you’re out here with,” she teased as one hand crept out for his once he was done with the cheese and sticks and klah. "Do you ever get lonely?"

"Mm. I told my father I was feeling restless. I don't know if you've noticed but we've all been doing this, coming outside the Weyr, to get some wind and sky in our faces. It's ... hard being trapped in the Bowl all the time," Silvio said thoughtfully, using another stripped twig to stir the klah and pass a mug over to her. "Hardly, I just have a very high opinion of your talents, both to speak and to listen," he said with a chuckle and lifted his hand towards her cheek about the same time hers touched down atop his other and he smiled for the trade of gestures.
"Lonely?" That gave Silvio pause and he considered that for a moment then shook his head slowly. "I don't think so. But there's always someone around when we're on the road. Close quarters in the wagons really, family is always there. I -- I miss my sister right now. Is that a kind of loneliness? We're two of kind I guess, in a lot of ways. Even though she's always flying in the face of our ways." His hand hand turned over beneath hers, fingers curling upward to take hers in his. He was leaning in to kiss her again when some melted cheese fell with a sizzle into the flames and he drew away instead to save that part of their dinner. The Caminar pulled the long slices of bread up and over each drooping chunk of cheese, folding it over and squeezing until the yellow melted goodness tried to ooze out from between the bread, then he pulled both sandwiches free of the sticks and held one out to her. "Dinner is served."

“I don’t know if you’ve noticed,” Genet said with an easy smile, “But there’s only one Caminar I have a desire to keep an eye out for.” She did not pay attention unless she thought she might have seen Silvio. Then until she was sure it had not been him she would watch a little closer. After all there was always a chance to steal a moment if she were just aware of them as they came.
“I get lonely around people. I live in a Weyr with hundreds of people and get lonely. And I hate being by myself too long unless I’m doing something because then I get real lonely.” Genet lived for excitement and it was easier to find around other people. Seeking out company was nothing new and that was why the similarity of their situation had left her wanting to spend time with Silvio. Not just because he was cute at all.
As dinner was served she fell silent to listen to the noise around her. Mostly what she heard was her heart and she wondered if he might be hearing it too. It seemed loud enough after all. Her murmured, “Thank you,” for the toasted bread and cheese was distracted sounding. What was that noise she’d thought she’d heard?

That brought a wide smile to Silvio's face as he bit into his sandwich. "Goes both ways," he told her when he'd swallowed, lifted his mug to have a drink, careful of the liquid's heat. "I guess in some ways, I'm not really used to being completely alone, but sometimes it's nice to just have some time to myself. I don't think I could do it for too long though. Be alone." He took another bite, chewed thoughtfully nodded for her thanks.
His head cocked as heard the sound of an insect start to rub its back legs together, churring its mating call into the night and he couldn't help the knowing grin that slid onto his face briefly. Not that this song wasn't around almost every night in the summer, but it seemed suddenly apt. The Caminar finished up his sandwich and had another swig of klah, set the mug down and looked over at Genet.
The firelight danced along her face and he was struck again by how beautiful she was to him, even if her features weren't the sort that would inspire millions to pine. He reached over to draw his fingers through her hair gently, cleared his throat again to speak. "Genet ..." he started but didn't get any further, longing pinched off the rest of his words.

While she ate glances were stolen towards the Caminar. Lit by the fire as he was she couldn’t help but stare. He was so handsome and kind and funny and she wanted what she felt to last. Other than the nervous flutter in her stomach that made it hard to eat. That could go away any time thank you very much. Finally she stuffed the last of her food into her mouth just before he looked at her and washed it down with klah.
Genet didn’t know what the sound was, but it still seemed fitting. Night sounds held so much more than she’d thought and she wished she could hear them all. But that moment passed and with Silvio’s saying her name she could once again hear only her heart beating and the blood rush to her face. Setting her cup down she pulled her hands into her lap. “I just- I mean-“ Fumbling for words she finally took a deep breath and faced him.
“I know what you want. I want it to. I think. But I never have and even though my sisters and mother told me it was a horrible thing to be endured I don’t think that will be the case with you.” Her expression lit up by firelight clearly begged him not to make it a horrible thing. Her face tilted up and there was no real manner of seduction to her. She was too blunt for that and was just tired of waiting nervously so her words were simple and direct although the need in them was plain enough as well. “Now, please.”

Silvio opened his mouth to speak again, but then she was and he reached into her lap for hands, threaded his fingers through hers and looked up at her to listen. A succession of expressions crossed his face, first pleasure and a burst of fierce desire as she confirmed what he'd thought, then startlement at the confession about her family's stance on sex for women, wry amusement at her as-yet-uninformed opinon about him. And he couldn't help maybe, the brief tease that popped out of his mouth. "Just like that?"
The next moment though, he was drawing her towards him the pressure of his hands gentle, but determined. "I want you, Genet," he told her honestly, face suddenly going soft, emotion plain to read in his eyes. "And if it's horrible, you have leave to kick me off a cliff." Just before he kissed her, he murmured lowly: "I have every intention of making you feel as good as I possibly can."
This time, he didn't hesitate with any lacings or fastenings. Instead he made short work of them and did his level best to make good on the promise he'd just made while the fire crackled warmly beside them, the stars shone clear and bright overhead and the moons rose by degrees to cast silver light into the clearing.

Later, when the moons were risen to their place in the sky for the night and the fire had burned down to mostly glowing logs with fewer flames, Genet stretched against Silvio and laughed. “I guess you’re spared the cliff for now,” she teased as just made memories still warmed her skin. “That was not horrible. If I’d known that I wouldn’t have waited so long!” Now her grin turns sly and even more teasing as she sits up to stretch her back with her arms lifted up towards the sky. “Of course I can’t know how good you are without knowing what it’s like with other men.”
Even as she said it there was a pang of something sad and hard in her heart. She didn’t really want to know. Didn’t care what other men might be like good or bad. Genet wanted to be like this with him every night until they died, but she knew it couldn’t be. Those desires were stuffed away into the can’t ever be column in her mind. Just enjoy him while you have him.

Silvio's eyes were on those moons, one arm slung loosely around Genet when she laughed and his chin tipped down so he could see her face in the dual light, silver on one side, rosy from the fire's embers on the other. "Good. I'm told being shoved off a cliff is no fun," he told her deadpan and winked. As she sat up, his hand lifted to trail warmly down her spine a soft sigh caught in his throat. Then she spoke again and his hand froze in place, fingertips pressing into her back. He'd never felt this odd emotion before. It clawed at his chest and his throat and he blinked a few times at how hard it hit him between the eyes.
Jealousy. And she hadn't even done it yet. Hadn't looked at another man with the look she'd had in her eyes just now. His fingers flexed against her skin and he swallowed hard a few times. "I'm -- sure there's plenty of very capable lovers at the Weyr. It's a loose enough place," he forced himself to say, voice flat, lacking affect.
Silvio rolled up onto his side and reached for her to pull her back towards him, arms around her waist. "I don't want to share you," he said bluntly, what had just passed between them loosening his tongue a little, letting him say things he'd been holding back before.

Genet wondered if she should feel embarrassed to be watched by him right now. Considering what they’d just done she decided that would be silly and instead decided she enjoyed having his eyes on her. Her teasing did not get what she expected which was further teasing. She had thought he would make some silly quip back, but instead things turned serious.
There was no resistance when he pulled her back to him and she let out a contented sigh once settled. “Silvio, I-“ He was jealous. Secretly she was thrilled. Genet, always considered weird, had one of the most handsome men she’d ever seen jealous over her. It was amazing! Before saying anything she kissed his cheek as her lips turned upwards to a smile. “I do not want to share you either, Silvio. If we could be together I would never look at another man. And when we can be together I will not. But we need to be fair to one another. If you will dally or even take a wife I should be allowed to look around as well.”
Didn’t she sound so adult? So calm? So completely unlike herself. What Genet wanted to do was make him swear to never do this with another woman so long as she lived. To be the best lover he’d ever had so he wouldn’t even consider looking another way. Just the thought of him touching another woman made her want to tear out someone’s hair. Genet was much too excitable to be content sharing her man, but she was going to have to so might as well get used to it. “You’re mine,” she whispered fiercely. No matter what he did with whoever else he was hers. And screw being an adult about it.

Silvio's chin settled over her shoulder, his head tipping against hers and his arms threaded around her all the more tightly as she pressed that kiss to his cheek. What she was saying, for the most part filled him with strange, wild joy, but then she was saying 'dally' and 'wife' and all the rest and his jaw tightened moodily. "I wouldn't hold you back, once we've gone," he conceded heavily. 'But as long as we're here --" he broke off as she spoke those fierce words and inhaled sharply, turned his mouth into the soft skin of her shoulder and planted a warm kiss there.
"I don't want anyone else," Silvio blurted out, the words tumbling forth the thoughts coming clear in his mind, thoughts that had been forming up over the past few weeks as they got to know each other better, as they spent more time together as he fell hopelessly for her. And his breath caught in his throat before he breathed the words into her ear. "I love you. The only woman I want for my wife, is you." There was a slight pause and he swallowed hard. "And if I could make it so and not doom us both, I would. I would Genet. I would be yours in every way possible." His head dropped, forehead pressing into her shoulder from behind. "But we can't. I will be nothing if I stay here. Nothing. And you'd have to be willing to put up with a life that can be hard, so very hard if you want to go with me."

“You have to go away,” Genet said simply. It was simple for her. He was Caminar and he moved around. She was not and so she could not go with him. So be it. They would have to work something out that would allow him to live his own life. She would rather be alone completely than make him unhappy. There were other words to say. Other words she thought to share. Other words that died in her throat when he said three words.
Love. Was that was this was? Or was this something else? Did she love him? She wanted to be with him. Wanted to keep him hers forever. She was happy with him and missed him when they were not together. Maybe it was love. Genet had never been in love and thought this could be it. It made her hands sweat and her heart race. “You love me,” she says in amazement to the night sky. “I never thought-“ It was supposed to just be a good time she thought.
“I love you too.” The words were out before she’d thought of them. Thinking of them might have held them back and that would have been wrong. Because she did love him and leaned closer to feel him pressed against her before saying what was so hard to say. “But I can’t go with you, Silvio. You said your family would disown you. I won’t do that to you. I love you. I won’t make you miserable to be selfish. As much as I want to go with you I can’t. You know I can’t. If I could I would go right now.”

Silvio knew it was all true and for the first time in his life, he realized what it felt like to despair. Impasse. He couldn't stay and she couldn't go. She said the words back though and it eased him a little to hear it. As she leaned in, so too did he gather her close. Closer than close, lips trailing a path from her shoulder up the side of her neck to her ear. "Let's just have tonight then?" he proposed in a soft voice, pushing wilfully at all the harder thoughts, the things that got in the way of just enjoying this here and now.
"And as many other nights as we can manage until I have to go." He knew it was selfish to even ask her. That he'd lost his mind. "We're both selfish. I want as much time with you as I can get. Even though I know I'll be leaving and I don't know when I'll be back."

It would have to be good enough. Genet would spend every spare moment with him until he left. She would trade work and rest days and do everything she could to be with him. That was not exactly what she wanted, but it was what she had.
“I keep telling you,” she teases with a laugh that’s more breathless than amused. “G’tet will bring me anywhere I ask. You don’t have to wait to come back here. I will meet you wherever you want.” Anywhere on Pern she would get G’tet to take her and he’d better not complain. Anyway he was a romantic too. He would not stand in the way of love.
Thinking about those upcoming nights and days they might share before he left made her dizzy with renewed passion. Rolling away from him she hopped to her feet and stretched in the moonlight before holding both hands out to him. “Come on, Golden Boy. Dance with me again. Do what I want and I’ll do what you want next.” Her grin was wicked and the glint in her eyes was no less so. If she was brave enough to love someone she could never keep then she should get to dance naked in the moonlight to make up for it. It seemed fair.

"He hasn't even met me yet," Silvio pointed out about her brother, a shadow of doubt about the greenrider really being /that/ supportive flickering in his mind. Then again, Aleda could be /very/ persuasive. But he laughed and squeezed her tight. "If that works out, I'd be a very happy man," the Caminar murmured quietly.
She rolled away out of his grasp and he blinked in surprise, wondering if he'd said something wrong and watched her stretch, thunderstruck by the way the moonlight touched her skin, shadows here, silver reflection there. When her hands extended towards him that way he only smiled and smiled so hard his face might split in two and he got to his feet eagerly, ignoring the response of his own body to the sight of her and took both of her hands in his own. "Anything I want?" he teased her as he pulled her in close, improperly, daringly close and swung her around in a long, slow arc. "I can think of /quite/ a few things I want to do with you," he growled out lowly and drew her upright again, only to step out into the grass under the moons. Carefree at least for now, he danced with Genet, making up the steps as he went along, sharing laughter from time to time, until laughter gave way to passionate kisses and kisses led to more intimacy beneath the open sky.
