Detachment - not part of Silvio's nature really. Once things got going he just flowed with it. It was all the more jarring therefore when she not only drew back but stepped away and sat down over yonder. It took a minute for his brain to catch back up to the rest of him as he blinked puppy-dog confused eyes. A deep breath or two brought back something like intelligence to the Caminar and he swallowed once, hard. One hand lifted into his hair, scrubbing it back from his forehead and he walked away a step or two along the creek bank, mind a blank. You're an idiot, finally surfaced in his thoughts.
Silvio turned right back around and re-joined Genet, kneeling down beside her on the grass and reached for her hand again, smiled at her with renewed good humor. "I'll agree with that," he said lightly, then leaned back, weight resting on his muddied heels and joined her in looking out at the creek. "I don't know when we're leaving, Genet. And I have nothing permanent to offer you. But I'd like to keep seeing you while we're still here."
Definitely an idiot.
He told that part of his brain to shut the heck up.

As fast as she was Genet’s brain managed to keep up most of the time. What it had been thinking on since she sat down was that there was no reason at all to worry about what her parents thought anymore. It was silly to continue letting worries like that keep her from having fun. After all she was free now. Freer than if she’d impressed the queen on the sands. Poor Salina. She felt sort of sorry for her. Maybe she should talk to her? It couldn’t be easy being stuck around boys all the time with a life of such responsibilities in front of her. Into all of these scattered thoughts Silvio’s words penetrated. She had no answer for them right away, but squeezed his hand.
Finally she turned from the creek and looked at him with a bright smile. “I don’t want something permanent,” she began with. “I’m finally- I can do whatever I want. The last thing I want is to be tied down to some adorable charming guy.” Her smile widened into a grin as she winked at the Caminar. “Come on,” she said suddenly as she got to her feet without letting go of his hand. She gave him a tug and then pulled as if that would help. “I want to learn how to swim. Come on already!”
Idiots they both might be, but Genet was going to make sure they were having fun while idiocy reigned.

Blink. Silvio hadn't expected that from Genet and he inhaled in sudden surprise, brought his gaze back to her, taking in her expression. Was she serious? Plantado women weren't usually like this. They wanted him to stay, unless they were looking for that little something outside of the usual to just spice things up while the Caminar passed through. That didn't really seem to be Genet's speed either though. He could understand not wanting to be tied down though. Definitely.
Silvio's fingers tightened on hers in turn and he beamed back at her as she winked, laughter ringing around the clearing as she stood. He shifted his balance to get his feet beneath him again and pushed upright. "As you wish!" he said merrily and traded off tugging with her as he lead the way up the creek bank through the trees towards the pool.
The little voice in his head stayed dutifully quiet.
