Salina was absolutely exausted. Her feet ached, her back seemed like it would never straighten out and it was quite possible that her hands would forever retain the shape of holding a spoon within them.
She slumped against the wall, stretched out on a wooden bench within the kitchens she had slaved within for the day. Running back and forth, stirring this, stirring that, giving someone this. It had worn her out.
She stretched her back against the wall, wincing as it screamed in protest, the muscles too used to being bent over to straighten out without some work. The blonde girl groaned softly, eyes closing as she relaxed once more against the stone. She was used to working hard, had been ever since she had been able to, but the day had been absolutely frantic.
She stretched towards her toes and had to stifle a groan of pain. Everything ached. Everything. At least it was warm within here, much warmer next to the fires and protected by Telgar's thick walls from the screaming, achingly cold wind that screeched outside, bringing with it all that a late spring storm could muster up before summer came in and with it its heat.
She could be glad for that, even if she were sore and feeling like she could drop into sleep at any moment. And Rukbat not even gone from the sky!

The weyr was blastedly cold! For summer at very least. Darn, but he wished he had packed a few heavier layers, could the weather really be that drastically different from hold to weyr? Perhraps it was this bad in the hold now, who knew?It was simpossible to compare both places at once, so he settled to presuming that Pern was just being cold to spit him.
He straightened as he walked into the kitchens, he needed a sugar rush and fast preferably. So, fruit was the best idea, picking up a few succulent looking redfruit, Ezieki took a bite. He savoured the sweet juicy fruit.
He'dd had a long day, meeting this one, smiling nodding, generally being incredibly bland towards everyone and totally innofensive. He twiddled absent minded with the royal blue feather he had tied into his hair. He felt rather obnoxious in these surroundings, vanity was an incredibly large part of his life, and he presented himself as such.
He looked about the room, feeling rather ill at ease, being such a colourful one in comparison to the drab surroundings. He spotted a girl, one he had not met earlier when he done the obligatory rounds of introducing himself to this, that and the other. She was sa candidate judging by her knots. So, he made his way over to her.
"I don't believe we've met, I'm Ezieki," He said as he took a seat beside her, smiling warmly, "Arre you a candidate to? I was searched yesterday evening, I've had little chance to stop since that moment!" He laughed, it was true - he was sjust being incredibly nice about his wording.

Salina looked up, blinking as a boy slid into a seat by her, smiling and eating a piece of red fruit. The first thing she noticed about him was the ostentatious feather he'd tied into his hair. She blinked, flumping back to sit against the wall.
"Uhm. Hello, I'm Salina. We didn't meet." She blinked again at the wild exuberance that emnated from Ezieki. He looked to be a few Turns older than her, but was obviously really...not in his mind. Her mouth twisted into a smile. "Yes, I'm a candidate too. I put myself forward, seeing as I've lived here all my life." She settled more comfortably against the stone, feeling as if the boy in himself could perk her up to full speed once more.

"Pretty tiring isn't it? I'dalyn has had me all over the place today, meeting this one, seeing that one, introducing myself here there and everywhere. Really? You put yourself forward? Thats a brave move, the sands can be rather dangerous - especially when standing for a gold I hear." Ezieki said as he took another bite of the fruit.
He looked her over, she was pretty, nothing overtly stunning about her, but nonetheless, she was one of the better ones he'd seen that day. But did she stand a chance for the golden egg? As far as he knew anyone could impress it, "I didn't know you could nominate yourself to stand... you must be pretty brave to do that." He meant that in a nice way, in a way he respected her for, it took a lot of guts to risk getting mauled by a gold (who were all to fickle to his hearing).

His enthusiasm made her laugh and she shook her her sun-haired head, eyes alight with amusement for the way the boy talked, practically leaving everything that quick mouth uttered hanging in a question.
"Yes, I put myself forward. The weyrborn are usually allowed to." She shurgged lightly at the danger he spoke of. "It can be dangerous and if it is, it shall be takne care of. There's nothing to fear, because then you'd be fearing what you most want."
She looked the boy over briefly. Cute. Nicely put together. But nothing too terribly handsome about him. She laughed again. "I suppose." With this one, she could see herself easily becoming friends with.

Ezieki smirked, "I know nothing of weyr life," He assured her of his own ignorance, "Though I suppose that is all up for change - depending on whether I impress, or not. I'm not sure What I'd want to be quite honest with you." He smiled gently, less brash than before, something oddly gentle about it, "I feel as though I do not belong amongst Weyrfolk, they are far different from the holderfolk I have been used to all of my life.
He shook his head, took another bite of his redfruit, chewing slowly, the fruits flesh soft and just to his liking, sweet, sickly so. "So, Weyrborn kids, putting themselves forward, is common practice?" He asked, unaware, having not ever attented a hatching - only heard the good news when one random child impressed, or the likes. Nothing too spectacular.

"Well, it is quite different from life in the hold, I can assure you." Her smile was genuine, warm as she stretched her tense shoulders, rolling them as she shrugged. "Yes, they can put themselves forward when they feel like they are ready to. It can be common practice, yes. It depends on the person."
She shrugged, watching him, slightly enthralled with this new person who had made their way into her world. He was quite different than most and Salina found it awfully refreshing.

Ezieki sat in silence, imagining what the differences growing in a weeyr could be in comparison to living in a hold, like he had, well surely it gave you more freedom? After all, weyrs were known for their freedom, but then wouldnt it also be rather rlonely? Especially if her parents were riders, well - at least one of them. For which ever one it was, it meant that Salina would have seen less of them.
"So, are both of your parents riders? Or, just your father?" He said, jumping to logical conclusions. He stretched back, "I thihnk growing up in a weyr would be more fun than growing in a Hold, Dragonfolk seem to bee much more relaxed than holdedrfolk, yet, dragon flk tend to have morer of a burden on their plate." His words were thoughtful, and slow as a cause.
"I'm sorry, I don't mean to intrude into your life, I realise I'm asking a lot of questions, but I have a curious nature." He smirked, in a rather charming way.

Salina shrugged, obviously not concerned with the questions. "Oh, it's fine really. I'm glad to help." She flashed a brief smile at her fellow candidate. "My father was a rider. They say he was blue, though we're not entirely sure. My mother, my real mother, didn't want the burden of a child, so when she had me, she passed me off to the resident foster, Mother Terri. That was my mother."
"I have a very sensible nature," she chuckled and then leaned forward, eyes bright, her face full of youthful curiousity. "And you're from the hold, right?"

He listened, rather fascinated by her tale, "Damn..." He said under his breath, she'd had a fairly tough life. And yet, here she was juust as happy for it. "You're foster mother rmust be a wonderful lady to have brought you up so well." He smiled, "Because, as you say, you're really very sensible, even I can tell that an I've just met you! You're juust one of those sensible types. I think" He was tired, and well when he was tired he tended to overtalk, and say uneccesary things. But she brought his attention back to their time and moment, she leaned forward, her eyes daring and completely un-sensible-like, and then asked 'And you're frorm the hold, right?" Suspicion rose. His own eyes narrowed, but he replicated her by leaning in, "I don't believe I specified, but yes, by process of elimination, I guess I am. Telgar hold to be specific." He eyed her curiously, wondering quite as to where she was going to take this conversation, what ever, or where ever it was going, it sounded rather suspicious.

"She was. She is. She takes in all the lower caverns kids that no one wants and raises them up. It's hard, unbelievably so, and I admire her all the more because of it." Yes, she'd been right. He did bring an enthusiasm, a charisma to the room that made her feel like jumping up and working all over again. It was pleasant, to have someone so energetic and enthusiastic.
"Telgar?" She nodded as he answered, eyes slightly dreamy. "What is the hold like? I've never really been anywhere but here so please forgive me. I'm just as interested in your life as you are in mine."

He laughed, her rquestions were much morer innocent than what he had been expecting. He thought, laughed a little, then replied to her wit her answer. "Different. Here you have riders, drudges, the staff, mothers, children, fathers, lovers, dragons, All sorts of people meshed into one. However, at the hold, there is famillies, famillies who have known each otther their ,whole existence, a knowing b, x knowing y, X tolerating B whilst Y and a fight like dogs on every meeting. You are not known as you, but rather who your father and mother are. So, you are always their child before you are yourself, atleat to the adults, So, I wasn't me, I was Gerfil's boy, or Henya's son. News travels faster than a dragon going between so anything you even thought about doing - that was peerhaps a little alternative, or against the rules, or generally nott accepted, your parents or siblings know of it before you get the mind to do it." He sighed, "It's very different." He stated again. "They're flatter, less rocky than a weyr, buildings here there and everywhere, streets and alleyways which are a maze to any who don't know them, spaces occasisonally left for large stalls on market day. Or for when a search dragon comes to town, or for a gather, the search riders are always fun to watch, a mass off kids surround them all bleary eyed with tiredness from rising so early to line up in hoppe that they to might become a rider. "Gathers are good, though you must have been to one that was hold at the weyr, hold ones are probably a little different, wee tend to have a much... wilder night i guess, alcohol is drunk like a parched runner would quaff water, food is eaten like a creature fresh from hibernation, stories and merrymaking generally proceed into the following day." He shrugged again.
"I guess though its pretty damn different." He muttered, "I prefer to spend my time away from it though, I often used to go sit down by the river outside of Telgar. Stay in the sun." He stretched the kinks out of hiss muscles, sitting straight once more.

"Very different then," she agreed. "But here, here we have the politics. Riders vainly striving to gain that upperhand within their circle of friends, their wing, even the entire weyr itself. Because really, all people do seek some sort of power, don't they? It might just be the chance to be able to control your own reality, but more seek to do that for everyone. So, power struggle here, power struggle there."
She let out a delighted little chuckle and nodded. "Oh, yes. I think our gathers are a bit different as well. We may be a little more judicious with our drink-it wouldn't do for a rider to be so drunk that it affected his dragon-but just think," her eyes gleamed and she leaned all the more forward, as if inviting Ezieki in on a secret no other soul was privy to. "We have the flights of course. And the...celebrations after."
She leaned back then, feeling muscles that were not quite so sore as before. It made her just the slightest bit optimistic. Perhaps she wouldn't be a crone on the morrow. "I love the weyr, I do. I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. I've never wanted to be anywhere else."

"Just as before now I couldn't think of living anywhere but my Hold. Though this could be a turn for the better at least. I have to admdit, I am glad to be away from my brother and my father - They don't tolerate me too well." He paused, laughed rauciously and added, "I can't imagine why."
He quirked a brow, celebrations after a rising? Was she hinting at what he thought she was hinting at? Or was he just thinking a little to masculine? Flights were something else of course... Something he'd never thought about. but it shouldn't really be a problem. Well actually it likely would be a problem for him unless he impressed a bronze... He didn't see himself getting on to well with... well, other men. In that repsect. He fought the blush that threatened his cheeks.
"I had forgotten about the flights, I hear they're... ehm.. mmm" He faded out, not quite know what to say, he didn't want to embarrass himself or her.

She shook her head. "I can't imagine why either," she said quite seriously. She found the boy charming, found his energy infectious. Tone was slightly amused though in the simple statement as she watched him, watch his thoughts flicker almost transparent across his face, perhaps even more so than the blush that rose despite his best efforts.
"They're exciting, exhilarating and infectious." She chuckled, reaching out to pat his hand. The little mother within her rearing up. She had to, just had to. "It's just sex, darling. Nothing to be embarrassed about."
