Name: B'nek
Gender: male
Age: 30
Rank: Wingleader
B’nek is a tall man, standing at about 6’1. He has a strong, muscular build as a result of turns of dragonriding. He has a light, natural tan, and faint laugh lines around his eyes and mouth beginning to develop. Like a good dragonrider, he keeps his dark brown hair clipped short. One of his best features is his soft green eyes. He wears practical clothing and is often seen in his riding gear.
Time and time again, B’nek has been told that he needs to loosen up. He could be considered a workaholic because of his ceaseless dedication to training with his Wing. He holds the duties of a dragonrider above all else, and follows the dragonrider’s honor code to the letter. He has no respect for anyone who does not. In personal relationships, he upholds the same standards, and he is a fiercely loyal friend.
B’nek is very orderly. He likes things to be in their proper place, for people to be on time, and for clothes to be neat and clean. His mannerisms reflect this. Unless he is in front of his Wing, he is softspoken and subdued, as if being too loud will upset things.
He strives to be the best Wingleader possible and he is very fastidious about his Wing and he is notorious for holding Wing trainings on an almost too frequent basis. Despite the high standards he has for his Wingriders, however, he is a fair leader and takes the time to listen to every rider in his Wing. While he understands that greens and blues have a place and that bronzes and browns have theirs, he does not favor the higher ranked riders. He respects Blue and greenriders for their key role in the Wing. The fact that he is a bluerider’s son certainly influenced him, and he has often been a defender of the “lower” colors despite his own status.
Politically, B’nek preferred the old Weyrleader, S'lyn. He defers to J’fel because his duty as a dragonrider entails that he do so, but he mistrusts the young man and doesn’t really think that he is the best leader for the Weyr. The biggest reason is that he has no experience. B’nek himself is fairly young for a Wingleader, so that makes J’fel practically a baby. He also dislikes the way J'fel seems to defer to the Weyrwoman in most matters. It's fine to listen to advice, but in B'nek's opinion, a good Weyrleader needs to be strong by himself. In addition, he doesn’t really like the Caminar hanging around. He doesn’t dislike them as people, but the idea of the Weyr being too full makes him very nervous, and having so many unaccounted for folk around makes things way too disorganized, in his opinion.
B’nek, formerly named Belsinek, is the weyrbred son of a bluerider, B’sel, and a cook, Palika. B’sel and Palika were truly enamored with each other, but because of the bluerider’s dragonriding life, a stable relationship was impossible. The relationship also suffered stress from the criticism Palika got from her friends for being with B’sel; they didn’t believe that he could really be attracted to women. By the time Belsinek was a few years old, their romantic relationship had detoriated, but they remained close friends. Belsinek was raised by his own mother, with help from a legion of “aunts,” Palika’s friends in the lower caverns. B’sel visited his son often, and was more involved than usual for a dragonrider in his only child’s life.
Growing up, Belsinek was the typical weyrbrat, intelligent, curious, and obsessed with dragons. He was a leader among his friends and led them on all kinds of adventures around the Weyr. As young children, they knew of Weyr politics, but were unaffected by it. That changed when they neared candidate age and started speculating about what their friends would Impress. Belsinek’s Bluerider heritage came under suspicion, and he was always getting teased by his friends about it. He knew they were mostly joking, but eventually he got fed up and began spending less time with his peers. He spent a lot of time studying old records, wondering what life would be like when he could fly Thread.
Like most weyrfolk, Belsinek began standing as a candidate at an early age. He did not Impress at his first standing, but he kept trying, and at age fifteen, his greatest wish finally came true. At one fateful Hatching, the first bronze to hatch headed for Belsinek with no hesitation at all. Not only did he get to prove his friends wrong, he found his true lifemate in Hyth. He worked hard and passed weyrling training with no trouble at all.
At age seventeen, he was drafted in to the Weyrleader’s Wing. As a young Wingrider, B’nek looked up to Weyrleader S’lyn with naive admiration. He was eager to prove himself, which led to a few foolish mistakes, but as the turns passed he became an excellent rider. Five turns after becoming a full rider, at age twenty-two, B’nek was developing into his adult self, serious and driven.
When he was twenty-seven, a Wingleader position opened up, and B’nek was chosen to fill it. He was delighted, and he has poured his heart and soul into the Wing for three turns now.
Dragon's Name: Hyth
Color: Bronze
Age: 15
Physical Description: Hyth's hide is a dark bronze,as dark as it could be with still being classified as bronze. There is a slight green tint to it, making the color close to what some would call "true dragon bronze". Faint, coppery streaks run horizontally across his back and wings, and short snippets of lighter shades mark his neck and wings-givinng Hyth almost tiger like markings. His underwings are lighter too, more of a dark caramel color. Hyth is a large bronze, with a slightly bulky, well muscled build.
Personality: Hyth...The definition of calm. A rock. Your grandfather in dragon form. He is slow to anger, and he treats everyone with utmost patience. He never does anything quickly; if dragons had mottoes, Hyth’s would be “Good things come to those who wait.” He is interested in the affairs of other dragons, but not gossipy in the least. Unlike many other Bronzes, he is not particularly flirtatious. If he does want to woo a female, he prefers honest compliments and impressing through his antics rather than silly games. B’nek is probably not the only one in this pair who has been told to “loosen up,” but Hyth is simply unshakeable.
Type: Standard
Desciption: Like their Wingleader, B'nek's Wing is driven and skilled. B'nek pushes them hard, and it pays off. They consider themselves some of the best riders, and can sometimes come off as a bit snobby towards the other Wings. The Wing is also known for fostering the individual merits of a rider in order to incorporate those skills into the Wing at large. Cooperation is encouraged within the Wing, and the Wingriders respect one another regardless of their person rank (as far as the Wing goes, anyway...no telling what goes on in the social arena). They are a tight knit group.
Games: B'nek's Wing tends to excel in the precision flaming and dragon race categories, with high scores in individual competitions.
