Name: K'shi
Gender: male
Age: 17
Rank: Candidate
Katashi is handsome in a delicate, refined sort of way. He is medium height, about 5’9, and slim. His features are angular but just short of hawkish. A quirky characteristic is his slender, long-fingered hands--piano player hands, too bad the Pernese don’t have that particular instrument. He is naturally pale, but in the summer, he usually manages to get a bit of a tan. His eyes are wide and dark brown, and his straight hair is the same color. He keeps it about chin length.
Katashi is a flamboyent young man who likes to do what he wants, regardless of what others will think of it. He is undeniably selfish and he thinks of himself before anyone else. He likes to be comfortable and carefree, and he gets upset when something stands in the way of that. ”Pouty” is the best way to describe his mood when he is confronted with something he doesn’t like.
However, Katashi doesn’t have a deliberately mean bone in his body. He loves people, all people, and he tries not to be judgemental. While he does crave solitude on occasion, he is a sociable creature at heart and he likes to be surrounded by other people. He makes friends easily, partly because he loves to talk, and he will strike up a conversation with anyone. He is also very flirtatious. He’s always up for some romantic banter, and he’s not picky about that, either. The more liberal-minded sexual atmosphere of the Weyr suits him just fine.
Katashi is the fourth son of a minor Lord Holder. Naples Hold, where he grew up, is a minor Hold attached to Telgar Hold and located in the Telgar plains region. The Hold was best known for its jewelery craft, which made use of products mined in Telgar and Crom Holds.
As a middle child and one of three rapid births, he never recieved much individual attention from his parents. His mother cared for him as an infant, but then hired a nanny to watch him when he turned three. She was too busy with two more babies and with helping to run the Hold to care for a child. Katashi saw even less of his father, who was largely uninterested in his children, especially the younger ones. Katashi was always making trouble for his nanny, running away, poking his nose into everything, and putting bad ideas into the minds of the other children. As a young teen, he was little different, although his endeavors had become more “mature:” stealing wares from a Gather, for instance. He also discovered flirting, and he was soon well known among the Hold girls as a notorious playboy. He sometimes eyed the other young men as well, but the thought of actually doing anything with them never crossed him innocent Holdbred mind. On the fringe of adulthood, he was self-indulgent and careless, rarely heeding the opinions of others.
Unfortunately, there was one big obstacle to his desired way of life. As an eligible Holder's son, he was a pawn in the game of marriage alliances. At every Gather and Feast, he was introduced to young, eligible women of good political and economic standing. He hated the idea of a forced marriage (or any marriage at all, really), and he was also annoyed by the fact that these young ladies were physically off-limits. He was beginning to consider marrying the most attractive woman just to get all of the courting over with when a Searchrider visited the Hold.
Dragon's Name: Aristeth
Color: Blue
Age: Newborn
Physical Description: A varied collection of many hues, not much of Aristeth's hide matches any other bit. His skin shades from a pale frost blue at the tip of his long muzzle to a summer sky across gleaming eyes and long, graceful headknobs. His neck continues to deepen from cerulean to aqua down to indigo across his shoulders. The pattern reverses itself, bands of lightening color demarking his broad chest and thick, stocky body. They trail down his short rudder tail, ending back at winter's frost at the forked tip. There's no soft fading between shades, but crisp endings as if the colors were stacked side by side. The spars of his broad wings match the darkness of his shoulders, but the 'sails are a blaze of brightness: a swirling, flowing pattern that calls to mind a dancing fire.
Personality: A lover of knowledge and information, Aristeth is a consummate snoop. He hates the idea that he might be out of any loop and does his utmost to keep abreast of the latest news both at Telgar and beyond. Though some of the information he gleans isn't especially reliable, it's almost always interesting. Aristeth is a font of information, both the sort that's rich in wisdom and the sort that's utterly useless. Though he loves to learn, to study and to know, his memory is especially weak, even for a dragon. Many of his most fascinating and helpful thoughts are lost almost as soon as they're found, forgotten completely once they've been shared with you.
Mindvoice: The smells of fresh hides and new ink accompany many of Aristeth's thoughts, as does the faint sound of a stylus scritching away. Oftentimes, you won't even hear him at all, so much as see his words in your mind's eye as if they were transcribed across the link you share. When upset or distraught, those faint and soothing elements of study give way to the tang of smoke and the crackle of flames. Until he calms again, he becomes somewhat difficult to 'hear' or understand.
Inspiration: The Royal Library of Alexandria.
Aristeth is named for the Letter of Aristeas. Describing the Greek translation of the Hebrew Law by seventy-two interpreters sent into Egypt from Jerusalem, it is the earliest text to mention the Library of Alexandria.
