“Well, I plan on having a pulse for some time so I will be fun for quite some time.” G’tet laughed and let the subject of a future child drop with ease. He was just following quietly then when the bronzerider appeared. Looking over from the armload of things the Caminar woman had given him he shook his head with a laugh.
“Not so much a trip, sir. Just a little jaunt. There and then back to drop some things off.” He gestured with an elbow since his arms were full. “I just ran into Aleda here and she was looking for a few things. Well, I had to offer my assistance to a damsel in distress.” Good ole dependable G’tet is up to nothing at all. Not steadfast and reliable as a greenrider can be G’tet. “Telgar’s hospitality is needed a bit too far out is all. Wouldn’t want our guest to miss the hatching so I offered to run her out.”

"A day or two away, perhaps," Th'ane mused idly, reaching over to pick out one of the jars in trusty old G'tet's arms, turn it lowly in his hands and then gently set it down again. "This is a very lot of supplies for 'there and back again'."
Sideraveth, are you awake?
Well, the dragon groused, his thoughts stirring laconically, I am now. What do you need?
Have a word with Kalpeth. See what her rider is up to.
Even separated by stone walls and the length of the bowl, Th'ane thought he could hear his dragon's snort. Talking to Kalpeth is like talking to a puddle. I'll be lucky if I get any substance deeper than the sky's reflection.
Try, anyhow.
Sideraveth heaved a sigh so heavily into Th'ane's mind that he wondered if anyone had seen it gust out his ears. Then the bronze's awareness slid away so he could turn his attention on another communication. Hello, Kalpeth. It's a very fine day we're having, is it not?
His rider, meanwhile, looked slowly from G'tet to the damsel he was assisting out of her distress. "Telgar is sending a Caminar woman to a hold in need of aid, in such times as these? At whose orders?"

Aleda didn't add anything at first, her eyes were on Th'ane's face, considering his expression and his questions. She felt caught between her word not to speak and the urge to simply tell the bronzerider everything. There was G'tet to consider though, and what he might report back to J'fel. Since Th'ane seemed to be addressing himself primarily to the greenrider, she opted not to contribute right away, moved down the line, made much of considering a bottle of redwort before putting it back.
"To people that the Weyr would not usually help," she finally spoke a quasi-untruth and gave Th'ane a meaningful look. If they were lucky he would assume she meant Caminar in distress. With most of her people gathered here, if any wagons lingered out on the roads, the help of the Weyr could be needed if a rider had been flagged down.

On her ledge Kalpeth swished her tail at the breeze that stirred up a tiny dust devil. I am chasing the wind she told Sideraveth. That makes it a fine day indeed. With the tiny part of her mind devoted to thinking beyond the moment she sent a question to her rider. Is there something, G'tet, I must be hiding? Because surely there had been something? Hadn't there? I can't think of a thing, beauty. Is Sidervath speaking to you? Just tell him what he wants to know. With his answer to reassure her she sent a mental image to the bronze of the dust devil now dissipating.
In the stores G’tet looked at Th’ane and grinned a charming grin. He glanced at Aleda and nodded to her with a smile. “What she said, sir. As to whose orders, since when is a dragonrider expected to await orders to help those in need? We can afford the items from stores and it seemed wrong to try to track down J’fel or Aderes with everything they've got on their minds. The records will indicate what we’ve taken so it might be replaced. And if in reviewing those records someone takes issue with what I’ve done I’m sure I’ll hear of it and quickly.” He shrugged as best he could while his arms were full of items handed to him by the Caminar.

How pleasant, the bronze dragon offered with easy cheer. Th'ane has heard that you and your rider will be chasing the wind in earnest, soon. Where do you go?
In the storage caverns, Th'ane was less charming as he glanced between Aleda and G'tet. "Tithes are tight. That's a significant amount to be taking away from the Weyr on a well-meaning whim. My apologies, G'tet, but I take issue with it. I think we'd better find someone to give the pair of you clearance before you rush off to play at heroics." He looked, again, at the large pile of medical odds and ends. "Was there an accident?"

Aleda's lips pressed together a little for G'tet's explanation. Her mind raced through possibilities and she looked up, sought Th'ane's gaze and widened her eyes at him a little. She couldn't telegraph 'I'll tell you later' any louder than that without a dragon.
"No sir, no accident, but illness," she murmured aloud. In general, she thought it best to stick to the truth as closely as possible when lying. "And I do have clearance." There, it was a risk, but she took responsibility where she'd been conceding it to G'tet before.

It was only a mental eye rolling G’tet afforded the bronzerider. Always sticking their noses in where they don’t belong. Acting like they own the whole weyr. We have our own weyr Kalpeth sent to G’tet in a soothing tone. Yes, Kalpeth, I know. It’s not that. What is it then? It’s just…it’s none of his business.
Kalpeth, being a good dragon, directs her next words to Sideraveth. It’s none of your business what we chase. If we want to go to the sea we can go to the sea. She thought herself smug and leaked some of that smugness towards the bronze as she showed him the image shared with her from Jordeth. Haha! Take that. They would go where they wanted and they didn’t need his permission.
In the storeroom G’tet just nodded to Aleda’s words. “Nothing to take issue to then I think. We’ll just be on our way.” He may have not been able to decipher the look between Caminar and bronzerider, but he saw a look shared. So, that’s how it is. Of course it is. I told him what for Kalpeth shared. At least I can count on you, beauty. I’m coming back. Arms loaded with Aleda’s supplies G’tet nodded towards the entrance to stores. “I’ll just leave these up there. I’ll have them put them in a basket or sack or something.” He glanced at the bronzerider briefly and tilted his chin upwards. Go on, I dare you.
What should I do? The greenrider turned away before his grin might be seen. Nothing but be yourself, Kal. Wait for me in the bowl. “I will see you when you are ready to run that errand, Aleda,” he said over his shoulder. “Good day, wingleader.”

"Illness," Th'ane repeated, slowly and softly, his gaze moving to Aleda long enough to register her wide-eyed stare.
On his ledge, Sideraveth was looking a little wide-eyed himself, his head lifted in open astonishment that Kalpeth could really... that she was really... he sneezed heavily and passed the image on to his rider. This is where they go. To the green herself he only offered a demure, Of course you can.
The bronzerider watched G'tet make his retreat, but if he had any further protest he kept it to himself. He only bothered to add, more towards the greenrider than the Caminar, "Be sure you return anything that's left over."

Aleda opened her mouth to say something when G'tet made the sudden decision to walk off with the armload of supplies. That decision surprised her, but she decided the best thing to do was go with it. "Thank you for your help, G'tet. I will see you later," she said instead of trying to hold him back or catch up.
She waited a moment or two until the greenrider had reached the end of the aisle, then tipped a look up at Th'ane, waited a moment longer. Finally, softly: "I gave my word not to speak of this to the person who asked this of us. So there is only so much I can tell you." The sabedoria kept the distance between them polite, but there was a certain intensity in her voice when next she spoke. "Is it enough to know, that it is important and necessary? Can you trust me in this?"

He watched G'tet depart and then the bronzerider looked to Aleda. For her question, he only shook his head. "No," Th'ane said quietly, "It's not. What's so important and necessary that it's sending you out of Telgar's coverage area with a greenrider and a week's worth of supplies? Who ordered this?"

"G'tet is only helping me with the supplies," Aleda replied, moving a bit further down the aisle towards the back of the store room. Her shoulders had lifted a little and her jaw was tight, but she kept a lid on her rising frustration for now. "And I am not sure for how long I will be gone." She dropped a look over her shoulder at him. "I had meant to speak to you about this ... differently. Not here."

The look Th'ane offered Aleda was rather flat and skeptical. "Of course he is," the bronzer answered coolly. "And what had you planned to do, then? Murmur in my ear in the middle of the night and then slip away in the morning? That would have been better?"

The look she offered him in return was accompanied by a roll of her eyes. "Of course not, but 'in private' was definitely part of my plan," Aleda replied with some asperity. She turned and leaned in towards him. "This is not something to be spoken of where we may be overheard."

In response, Th'ane only smiled slowly and bent down. The leather of his riding jacket crackled and creaked as he lowered his head to Aleda's height. Hair tucked behind his ear, jaw tilted, his posture was an open invitation for Aleda to whisper her secrets to him.

That tilt of jaw earned Th'ane a light kiss on the cheek and a smile, before she murmured softly in his ear: "The Weyrleader's orders, Th'ane." Her hand rested on his arm for a moment, dark eyes lifted to his face, searching for a reaction.
