The bronzerider blinked slowly, a frown beginning in the way his brows gathered together and his mouth thinned. "And what business does J'fel have that sends a sabedoria out beyond his own coverage area?"

Aleda only looked at him steadily at the frown, the thinning lips and she tilted her head slightly to the side, lifted a hand to skirt lightly along one leather-clad arm. "I gave my word not to speak of it, Th'ane. I cannot tell you all." But from the way she's looking at him, the little pull of amusement in the corner of her mouth, clearly there's things she's willing to tell, thinking through the how.

The frown smoothed and Th'ane's lips lifted, instead, into a small smile. "Well," he murmured, one hand lifting to curl over Aleda's as it flittered down his arm, "can you tell me some, beauty?"

Aleda reached up, fingers taking hold of Th'ane's chin gently, staying there for a moment before dropping away. "Not very much," she whispered into his ear and considered her next words carefully. "There is illness and I and some others are to go deal with it. We will be leaving soon." She leaned back then, searching his face, trying to meet his gaze. "I must do this, Teimo. It is very important. I gave my word. And I could not say no."

He jerked back from that little touch of fingers on his jaw. From her fondness of offering up those gestures that were almost diminutive. The sabedoria could make the wingleader frown as easily as she could make hims smile, and the scowl was back in full force now.
"It's Th'ane," he corrected, cool and flat. Though his jaw worked slowly, no further words came out for several long moments. "If you're a Weyrleader," he began again slowly, "greenriders and Caminar are both disposable. You remember that on your secret and important trip. May your word not cost you more than you'd like to pay."
All spoken out, the bronzerider turned stiffly to depart.

That jerk backward, the scowl made Aleda's hand drop and hurt flashed across her face. "That is your drageiro name. You know what it means if I call you the name that is only between you and me." She said to his back, voice tight, thick with hurt and a little anger. "You know I must keep my word. I cannot break it." She leaned back against the wall, arms folding across her mid-section to watch him go.

The rider looked back over his shoulder, a ready retort already parting his lips. But, after an instant, that mouth closed again and Th'ane only shook his head.
"Of course you can," he said instead. "Just don't tell anyone, after." But, more a final jab than a request, the bronzer once more turned away. This time, he walked down the aisle and out of stores. Whatever he'd come for would have to be retrieved some other time.

Aleda said nothing as Th'ane left the Stores. She waited until he was gone before she turned and the side of her fist slammed into the stone wall, then her forehead pressed into it as she swore colorfully in Noestacan. She stayed there for a few good minutes then took a deep breath, lifted a sachet out of a basket and took this up to sign out. G'tet was well gone too, but she marched out in search of him.
There were more things to prepare and she had errands to run. Failing that, there was research to do as well. She needed to read about the plague, refresh her memory about symptoms and incubation periods and how long it took to run its course.
Far too much to do before they went.
