Age: Eighteen
Rank: Candidate
Yashi is a girl of middling height, standing at around five foot three inches, yet her long proportions often lead people to believe she’s much taller. She’s been fairly blessed to have long legs and a long torso, though she carries a few extra pounds around her hips and stomach that could always be lost; however, she’s gotten old enough not to fuss over it much more. With large breasts, Yashi sometimes struggles to get people to address her to her face, much to her irritation.
Another element of Yashi’s external appearance that detracts from her overall sex appeal is her pasty skin color. No matter how much time the young woman spends in the sun, she remains the same, making her look constantly ill, though she almost never is. If she’s not pasty, she’s burned, with peeling shoulders and a peeling nose, skin flaking off in small bits.
Her hair reaches down to her shoulder blades, constantly kept in a tight runner-tail or a bun, so that no errant, dark blonde strands can escape to bother the girl. Her blue eyes (almost gray, really) would be rather nondescript, were it not for their sheer, overwhelming size, making them rather unsettling at first, though gradually one does get used to them, unless their frank gaze is directed towards you.
All of Yashi’s other features appear to be fairly average, though her nose has a slight bump, as if it was broken at one point, which makes it jut out like a prow, and her eyebrows are a bit on the thick side.
In general, Yashi is quite extroverted. She enjoys being with people of all sorts, though like everyone else, she does need her alone time. Being with people gives Yashi a sort of mental stimulation that few other things can, which is rather important, considering her role as a Healer of people. However, if Yashi does have a fault with her extroverted nature, it is her natural dominance- her body language and tone of voice seems to always point out that Yashi is indeed the dominant force in a setting. Even when working with others, in groups, Yashi takes a rather domineering role. This isn’t to say she doesn’t listen, for the girl is quite good at that- it is just to say that she’s not likely to sit by passively, and let someone else take the reins. She’s just as likely to take the entirety of the work on herself, wanting everything to be held up to high ideals of perfectionism, then let someone else slip.
Yashi also seems new and innovative ways to solve conventional problems that can arise in both Healing and daily life. It was an idea reinforced since she was very young, and has stuck around since then. There are always alternatives that can work better, and Yashi is willing to try them, failure be damned. She recognizes that failure is inevitable at times, and while she may not fully accept it in her heart, she nods her head and moves on to the next, always keeping herself busy and focused.
Her passion for life always drives the girl forward. There is forever that look, that sparkle in her eye that suggests something is going on in that mind of hers. Of course, at a tip of the hat, Yashi can become rather lazy and apathetic, especially when doing things she doesn’t enjoy. Oh, she’ll do them eventually, but she may grumble and she certainly will do it at her own pace. Some view this as insubordination, though Yashi prefers to think of it as running her own life on her own terms.
Her confrontational nature can also get the young woman in trouble. Some remnants of the anger of her youth still remain, though for the most part, Yashi stays out of conflicts. Her laid back approach to life is still very new, but it is growing. Now, when conflict arises, Yashi will not get involved unless the matter is important. Petty squabbles do not interest her, and she finds that they distract from the true purpose of getting things done the right way. They may even distract from things of actual importance, which can cost lives in the Healing profession.
Her ability to handle people can not be doubted. Yashi is good with them, good at calming down those in pain, good at handling those who doubt her skill. Inside, she may bridle and balk, but the girl has some sort of savvy that’s normally only seen in politicians.
Yashi’s main fault would be impatience. Results have to happen instantaneously, or the effort isn’t worth it. One would think that the Healing effort would extend her patience, but thus far, only a small improvement has been made. She constantly needs to be up and moving, seeing her results spread before her like a map.
It seems as though all her life was leading towards the inevitability of becoming a Healer. Yashi’s father, a Journeyman, fathered his child on an apprentice of only fourteen Turns, creating a bit of a scandal. Though Yashi’s mother chose to bare her child, Yashi was promptly given to a foster mother. From then on out, she saw little of her parents, instead adopting what seemed like the entirety of the Healer Hall as her extended family. The lack of any true parental attachment didn’t seem detrimental, and Yashi grew up with a fairly typical childhood, filled with its ups and downs. She never got to know who her parents were (as both were promptly dismissed from the Hall), but the foster family seemed to suit Yashi just fine.
Reaching the age of thirteen was a tumultuous time for young Yashi, who found that her early puberty conflicted her acceptance as an apprentice, and her first few years were spent with a great deal of anger and resentment inside the young woman. She resented her restriction of freedoms as an apprentice, resented the sometimes unfair rules those higher than her set, resented being awkward and not understanding herself. As she grew older though, delving further and further in the Healer craft, Yashi realized the foolishness of her behavior, finally achieving some sense of maturity towards the end of her apprentice-ship. Gone was the girl who would fight everything- in her place was a poised young woman with a commanding air.
Though Yashi's walking the tables seem inevitable, an event tumbled into place that seemed to take priority- the young woman was Searched to Telgar Weyr, to stand for the clutch of eggs currently on the sands. Her Searching was pure luck- Yashi had been accompanying a master tending to small cotholds around the region of Telgar, when a dragon flying overhead had stopped. Unfortunately, Yashi failed to Impress, but determined to make that part of her new future, stayed in the Weyr, taking on the job as an assistant in the Infirmary.
