Over the turns lessons in Weyr management had been learned by Telgar’s headwoman. One of those lessons was that no matter how available you made yourself if people did not see you doing so then it was of no use. This was why once a seven she made an effort to remain in the living cavern and use one of the larger tables as her office between meals. It had the added benefit of allowing her to keep an eye on those supposed to be working. An assistant ran messages for her and returned answers as well as making sure the tea she drank remained hot and fresh. Unless she had someone with her Ramla did not bother with food. It was messy and might disrupt her hidework. She might want to be sure people knew she was here for any serious problems, but such problems could not interfere with her daily work.
It was the time between breakfast and lunch where one saw mostly riders within the living cavern. A few residents who had no duties and some crafters taking a break or off duty dotted the landscape as well. For the moment the headwoman sat alone, but she had already spoken to several people this day. The majority of the people Ramla spoke to came to her of their own accord, but every few were summoned to her with a polite request to join her for a drink. There was no way to know exactly what had drawn some people to her attention, but she treated these as graciously as those who took it upon themselves to come say hello and make some request or inquiry of her.
