Name: Keldara
Gender: Female
Age: 17
Rank: Candidate
An oddball of her family in appearance, this girl is. While many of her family are on the tall side, she is rather short, standing at a full height of 5’3”, and she can’t grow any taller either. With long, powerful legs, and a rather scrawny body, she reminds many of a lanky runnerbeast. Her pale skin can be tanned slightly by the sun, but rarely is; unless she’s out for long periods of time. Her facial features slightly correspond with her half-brothers, with the same rounded-almond shaped eyes and thin, pale lips.
Her long hair, a glossy black hue, falls down to below her shoulder blades when she stands up straight. And when it’s not tied up, too. Normally it is, whether it be a messy, loose ponytail, or a tight bun. Sometimes it’s even in a braid. But during the winter, she likes to keep it down. Anyways, her eyes are a daring frosty blue, almost pale blue, turning to a very light blue around the edges. For clothes, she normally wears comfortable-esque clothing; boots, trousers, a loose shirt, that type of thing.
Her personality went through a major shift in her life, but as it now stands, she is much different from her younger self. Keldara is best understood when she is around her half-brother, who makes her feel more confident and secure. When around him, she’s easy-going, having a good time, joking around and outspoken. She makes herself heard and is very firm in her ways. To make her thoughts sway, you must have a good hold over her, otherwise your efforts will get you nowhere. She teases a lot but knows when to stop; she respects not only her only limits but others as well. She has a certain morale that she follows by, no matter who she’s interacting with; treat them the way they treat her. So if somebody acts like a jerk, she’s a jerk to them. She’s point-blank in her ways and doesn’t treat anyone different just because they have a title or a disability. It goes both ways.
Now, when she’s around strangers, she’s much more quiet than her normal self and much more polite and formal. Though she still sticks up for herself, Keldara is more withdrawn around people she’s not real sure of. She’s very cautious and sensitive to the other’s emotions and doesn’t press them. But be careful; Keldara has a temper, though mellower than Sunyu’s, that can make her seem like a devil. She gets infuriated by the sight of one belittling another, or bullying someone, or anything that just isn’t morally right. Which also includes men looking down on women. She can fight just as well as any man, thank-you-very-much. Which is true; Sunyu taught her how to defend herself, and he did a good job. Hayden even helped. Creto…not so much.
Her fears are not much but they are profound. One that really has no origin but is instilled upon this girl anyways is drowning. She's not a fan of the water- in fact, she would rather be without it, other than drinking and bathing. She never swims for fun- and the aspect of drowning miles from the surface surrounded by water and in the inky blackness at the sea bottom is just not appealing to her. Her other fear: loosing Sunyu. Since he's the only family member (or, at least, the one she can stand the most) that she really connects to and understands, and the one that has helped her the most, she doesn't want to know what will happen if he somehow leaves or...something. She's not clingy; don't get her wrong. She's just silently afraid of never seeing or being able to talk to him again. Half-sister-brotherly love. ^.^
Born in a Telgar hold to harper Crey and seamstress Huire, she was the oldest of three siblings. In her younger years, she quietly did what she was told, in her own little shell. Though she didn’t really like her father all that much, and her mother got on her nerves, she was terrified of ever yelling or getting angry at them, and what would happen if it finally slipped that she didn’t adore them like her two younger brothers, Creto and Hayden. All three of them knew of Crey’s wife, Li, but it didn’t seem to bother the two boys who were so much like their father. They had a born gift for music; Keldara liked to listen to it, not create or sing it.
That changed when one day she was coming back from her father’s lessons. One of his friends gave a hello to her, calling her “Crey’s girl”, which annoyed her to no ends; they seemed never to be able to remember her name. When she turned to look at him, she ran right into another young man; Sunyu. She apologized, quite a few times, and finally he laughed right at her. He questioned her about Crey, and she admitted that he was her father; and hinted that she hated him. He said that he was Crey’s son, and blatantly stated that he wished he wasn’t, and immediately the two bonded.
Slowly, Sunyu coaxed Keldara out of her shell. She started to glare at her father whenever he told her to do something, like to practice; and finally one day she blew up at both of them and stormed out. They were shocked; but she’d had it. She ended up running outside crying, and ran straight into her half-brother, like last time. He was able to convince her that she did the right thing, and from then on, rarely spoke with her parents. She didn’t realize how much she really hated them until she snapped. Her relationship with her two brothers more or less went among the same lines; though Hayden she could stand, for her seemed to show some qualities that neither her father nor her mother had. She spoke to him frequently about random things, and learned that his passion for the harper craft was swaying. She couldn’t help but smile inwardly at that. She knew that he wasn’t full song.
After many years of getting closer to Sunyu and causing small, controlled havoc in the hold, she realized that her future wasn’t there. She knew she had to do something to better help everyone, and just staying at the hold was somehow not enough. She soon got her chance, with the announcement of a clutch on the sands. Though she was ecstatic at the thought of going to the weyr as a candidate, or even just to help, she saw that Sunyu seemed to be worried. Though he wanted to help just as much as her, his excitement seemed to be dampened. But no matter how much she questioned him about it, he never gave her a straight answer. So she just gave up.
Finally, the searchrider came to them. After Keldara accepted almost immediately after being questioned, Sunyu did as well; and though the blue and his rider didn’t catch it, Kel knew her brother well enough to realize that he doubted something. Both of her other brothers declined the invitation, and Kel found that she was sad that Hayden didn’t come, but knew that his place wasn’t in the sky. So she and Sunyu left for the weyr.
Hayden, meanwhile, finally admitted when his parents finally married that he just wasn’t in the harper spirit anymore. Strangely enough, Crey accepted this calmly; Creto was doing superb, and it almost seemed as if he made up for Hayden’s failure. So he finally realized why his sister disliked his parents so much, and left for his real passion; the sea craft.
Desired Colors & Why:
Gold: While many think that gold riders have more freedom than greenriders, it’s kind of the opposite view for Keldara. Bronzeriders are known to believe lowly of women, as if they’re unsuited for high-ranking positions. To be in that kind of position, where she isn’t regarded for anything but her dragon’s color, and with the tight leash kept on her, will be very conflicting for her.
Green: One of the ranks of fighting dragons, in which all believe that only males can assume the role of. This would be a wonder to this girl; to be able to fight thread with the guys, to prove a woman’s worth and mush it in their faces. Not to mention the freedom that tags onto a green ^.^
Male Honorific: N/A
Requests:
I don’t care what color she gets. Heck, it might even be interesting if she doesn’t impress, for the benefit of Sunyu’s personality. No specifications here.
