Name:Genet
Gender:Female
Age:20
Rank:Weyrling
Genet bears the looks of a solid, healthy young woman. Her features are neither overly pleasing or horrible to look at. Narrow hazel eyes rest above an equally narrow nose with her mouth saving her from looking too thin by being wide and expressive. Chestnut colored hair is worn in a pair of braids that fall down to the middle of her back. This hairstyle does nothing to conceal her slightly too large ears.
Genet is rounded in all the places a woman should be with a little extra for good measure. It’s a body type that seems designed for motherhood and because she is taller than most women by several inches she can pull it off without being labeled as dumpy or pudgy. Her clothes are generally dull shades and rarely are anything but a long skirt and a long-sleeved blouse to match it. The boots on her feet typically are scuffed and dirty if in good repair.
She wears, always, a pendant of amber on a gold chain. It's never hidden or tucked away and looks to be of quite high quality
Genet always wants more. Raised by strict parents she chafes at rules she perceives to be biased or unfair (against her at least). She’ll question and worry a problem to death until she’s satisfied with the answer. It’s the same with everything. From the moment she noticed boys she was falling desperately in love with a new one every week. The desire to be noticed would fail just as suddenly when it was obvious they could not give her all she wanted. While this may make it seem like Genet is a poor worker it’s not the case. Just as she wants more and everything out of the fun in life she wants to accomplish all she can in her work. So long as it does not get dull. Any chore that will not be made to seem exciting for the duration is liable to be left half done. If she likes someone she’ll move the world for them and if she does not she’ll try to move it over them although her extreme moods rarely last long enough to cause any trouble.
Genet’s family settled at a small hold in Telgar’s territory generations ago. While they’ve never really stood out they’ve gotten to be known as reliable and dependable by whomever runs the hold. The last of six siblings, Genet and her twin brother, born Garatet, were to prove the exception to that rule. Wild children who wanted nothing to do with the other hold children or their own siblings they roamed the hold and surrounding areas looking for adventure.
Adventure for Garatet came four turns ago when he was searched for the eggs then on the sands. Genet was not allowed to go watch the hatching, but her parents returned to inform her, somewhat brusquely, that G’tet would not be returning having impressed to green Kalpeth. With her one true friend gone Genet despaired of life ever giving her anything again to make her happy. Although her parents offered her several good marriage opportunities she found ways to convince the potential bridegrooms she would be a lousy wife and so she remained single and yearning for something else.
G’tet visited often and would regale his twin with stories of life at the Weyr. He knew his sister would be happier there, but there was no way their parents would send her off there. As the turns passed it became harder and harder for Genet to stave off marriage, but finally the opportunity she needed arose. G’tet made sure the searchrider who went to his former hold would select his sister to come to the Weyr. Their parents would not refuse although surely they never believed their daughter would be found suitable by the queen said to be on the sands.
Impressing didn’t matter to Genet who was just happy to be gone from home. Her chance at more, whatever that might be, would not be wasted. And should she not impress she will simply just not return home. Finally she had the adventure she had been dreaming of for so long.
It was a good thing impressing did not matter as Genet left the sands with another girl taking the gold. However leaving the sands alone did not mean five months after the hatching she did not find herself paired with green Anquilith. At least that is how she remembers it.
Dragon's Name: Anquilith
Color: Green
Age: Less than 1 year
Physical Description:
She is dark, this sleek small thing, deep like the ocean at midnight. Her hide shines, each sinewy muscle highlighted as though she's been glossed with a fine and flexible lacquer. Gently curved spars support sweeping, oversized wingsails of gauzy ultramarine, a depth of color reflected in the shining little talons that tip her clever paws. A whippy tail promises no absence of speed and agility, though it adds length she hardly needs and emphasizes her rangy, leggy leanness. Her gracious neck raises high her slender head, features inquisitive with prominent arched eyeridges and a petite, pointed snout.
Personality:
Anquilith is absolutely adventurous, despite her strange beginnings - almost as though that first mystery inspired her interest in all others. She's an adept improvisor, capable - with your help - of moving past the first thrill of panic that always seizes her when a situation's more challenging than she expected, using that nervous energy to fuel the swift and sometimes startlingly unconventional problem-solving she can accomplish. She is determined, daring, and a dreamer - a combination that yields great results and a lot of exhaustion, too.
Mindvoice:
Anquilith speaks slowly, her thoughts slightly delayed by the vast space between herself and her subject. This gives her voice no less sense of immediacy - she can be compelling, loud, heartfelt - but the swirl of an airless dust makes her seem sometimes scratchy and often distant.
Inspiration:
During the Apollo 11 manned lunar landing, July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong and 'Buzz' Aldrin became the first men from earth to walk on the moon; command module pilot Michael Collins looked on from orbit in the Columbia. The event, though well-documented for the time and so historic it approaches religious importance for many, is the subject of no shortage of conspiracy and hoax theories. Did it really happen at all?
Anquilith's name is taken from Armstrong's name for the lunar landing site: Tranquility Base.
