The hubbub outside fell away as Aleda stepped up into her long-abandoned wagon, still trying to come to terms with the fact that nearly six months had passed since she'd slipped away with the others to go back to the past. Nearly half a turn. Half a turn. It was enough time that much could change all on its own, not to mention the change that Kalpeth had made happen. Her mind swam dangerously again, trying to make sense of it all and she pushed the dizzy feeling away, walked towards her bed and eyed the rumpled bedding, looked over her shoulder at Silvio as he followed her inside and shut the door."Have you been sleeping with her in here?" she asked him, eyes twinkling just a little though she tried to make her face look severe.
Silvio widened his in turn at her and shook his head. "No!" One hand lifted to sheepishly sweep his woollen cap off of his head. "Dreaming about it, yes, but not -- no. Not yet. I've been sleeping here. It -- I missed you." He sighed and tossed the cap down on the table while Aleda pulled the sheets off the bed and bundled them off, lobbed them at him. "You can take this to the laundry then," she told him in a no-nonsense voice and flipped open the storage in the wagon's wall to pull out a fresh set of linens to re-make the bed. She wanted to lie down and sleep so badly. "Yes, ma'am", Silvio was answering as he tucked the bundled linens off to one side of the door. He pulled off his jacket and set it on one of the hooks on the door's back then moved to join Aleda, helping her to tuck the sheets in, spread the blankets out. She flopped down into the cozy nest, shoes kicked off and she sighed happily. "My bed." Silvio just laughed and flopped down beside her, waited until she scooted over to put her head on his shoulder before curling an arm comfortably around her.
"It's only been a day, day and a half for me," Aleda told her brother softly, finger tracing a line of embroidery on his shirt idly. "And it's' been nearly six months for all of you. My mind keeps drawing a blank at that. I missed the summer. The whole gathering and it's nearly time for us all to leave." Silvio nodded along as she spoke then swallowed hard at that last. "Right." The pause stretched out long and Aleda tipped her head back to look up at him. "You have it /really/ badly don't you?" she accused him, sat up a little and eyed him closely. Silvio blushed faintly and he looked away. "I don't -- I don't want to leave her. We met because of you, you know. Because you were missing. We went to the Weyrleader to complain and he fed us a pack of nonsense and it just --" he gestured helplessly and Aleda ruffled his hair fondly. "After so much playing around, I would not have thought that a plantado girl would be the one to capture your heart, brother mine." Silvio only looked up at Aleda unhappily and cleared his throat. "I'm engaged, Aleda."
That widened her eyes, the sabedoria staring at Silvio in astonishment. "Papa?" she asked once that initial startlement had passed. Silvio nodded a few times and lifted himself up on his elbows. "It's a good match. Julio's granddaughter, Avera. It would allow me my own wagon, a new start. But --" he gestured helplessly and let his hand fall back down to the covers. "Genet ..." Sympathy softened Aleda's face and she leaned down, wound her arms around her brother and squeezed him tight. "Oh Silvio. And you've always been the one who has been more ... obedient," she murmured and hugged him again. Silvio only sighed and hugged back. "I know. Until a few months ago, I wanted nothing more than this marriage, my wagon, my trade from my uncle. Now, I dread the day that Papa and Uncle say it is time to go." The siblings clung to each other for a few minutes, then Aleda drew back. "Well. Perhaps things will change some more and that will take care of that," she said pragmatically and wryly. "I was almost disappointed that nothing had changed with our people, that everything was so much the same. Though girls on green dragons ... that, that is /good/," the sabedoria murmured softly. "It is something at least."
She fell silent, fingers playing through her brother's hair fondly. "We will see, Silvio, we will see. I have reasons to wish to stay myself. Maybe we could stay together." Silvio leaned his head lightly against Aleda's and closed his eyes. "I need to learn from Uncle. I go where he goes," he answered heavily but the ideahad some merit. "You /do/ have your own wagon though," he mused and looked down at her, thinking hard by the dent between his brows. "I will think on it and let you sleep. You say it has been a day but you look as if you have been awake for six months." So saying he slipped out of the bed and tucked her into it tenderly. "Sleep, sister mine. We will talk more later after I have worked and everything has settled down." Aleda yawned and smiled muzzily up at her brother. "Oh yes, we wlil talk more later. With the two of them. G'tet has arranged for dinner,"she noted with a little smirk on her lips and it was Silvio's turn to eye /her/ suspiciously. "You have plans for that greenrider," he said with a laughing snort and smoothed a curl back from her cheek. "Well. I suppose it isn't strange that we would /both/ like them," he said thoughtfully, then backed away to put his jacket and cap back on and take the linens out. "Rest well, Aleda. I will see you for supper."
The door banged shut behind Silvio and Aleda stretched out beneath the blankets tucking her cheek into the smoothness of the pillows. She hadn't changed the pillowcase and she caught faintly, the scent of her brother still lingering there. He had been sleeping here for some time then. Poor Silvio. So torn. And she'd thought he was always set while she was the one being pulled in many directions. Well. At least she knew a little of what he was going through and perhaps they could help each other. Only not now. Now was for sleeping and maybe dreaming a little about what might come after dinner.
