Tempus Fugit is run a little bit differently than most other Pern Proboard games out there.
Please read through the following, and make sure you understand and agree to play by the philosophies listed below and the expectations in the 'Rules' post before you create a character.[/b]
And, please, don't hesitate to PM your admins, Invisible and Omnia Munda, with any questions you may have!
Staff
OM and Invisible are not just your board admins, but also your GMs (Game Masters), for those of you familiar with terms used with in-person roleplaying games. We're mostly here to direct and devise plot, often through the use of high-powered NPCs. (For our purposes, not all high-powered NPCs are also high-ranking.) We read all threads and do our best to ensure that the timeline makes sense and that the actions of PCs are accurately reflected in the world around them. We're also here to meddle with your characters and the world they live in, hopefully to all of our mutual delight. We will mostly play NPCs, some of which may become rather familiar...
Players and Plots
Nothing here is set in stone, and while staff-introduced plots may have conclusions planned out for the sake of maintaining that plot's momentum, what happens on Tempus Fugit is directly based on what the PCs do. Stories go where you take them, and all staff-run plots are open to change based on what your characters decide to do when they encounter them. We provide the world and the setting, but you are the world's shapers and doers. Be bold. Be daring. Initiate plots, devise schemes, and help us weave your story into the overall tale we tell. That's what Tempus Fugit is all about!
Interactive RP
We welcome folks to play as many characters as they think they can handle, and multiple candidates per player may impress at most hatchings (though we don't guarantee every candidate will impress). However, we recommend that you spend the majority of your time engaging the characters of other players in RP rather than having your characters RP with one another. The purpose of this game is to play with other people! If you have an idea for a scene involving just your own characters, the place to post it would be the Vignettes board.
Consent
This is not a strictly consent game - things will happen to characters that their players may not expect. You may receive a PM from an admin telling you about something that happens to your character, or something they discover about themselves. Whether you choose to express these details in your character profile or not is up to you. We will not give you details that will 'ruin' your character; in fact, you may assume that such a notice probably pertains to plot or the special functions of this game setting.
If you feel you simply can't play or present a detail given in this way, just PM back; we are reasonable people under all the gleeful meddling. In general, though, we expect our players to accept these modifications and get the most out of whatever RP they might bring. This really isn't the place to play a static character or to have goals for your character to be 'happily ever after;' if that's the kind of thing you're looking for, we can point you to a couple of games that might suit you better.
ICA=ICC
Again, this is not a strictly consent game. In-Character (IC) actions will result in IC consequences - and because of the nature of this game and its timeline, consequences may be complicated and far-reaching. Players are expected to roll with consequences due to IC actions, even when they are terrible: the loss of NPC family members, perhaps, or the destruction of a Hold.
We're not out to make you, the players, mad, sad or frustrated. It's our belief that while danger and tragedy can be awful for our poor characters, we, the players behind them, can take a storyteller's delight in their misfortune. The goal will always be to build, develop and layer characters, never to crush them or make them unplayable. We're after the drama! If a bit of conflict in your characters' lives isn't to your liking, Tempus Fugit may not be the right game for you.
One exception: if your PC's actions would ensure his or her irretrievable demise, we will contact you and devise a way to fix it (unless you want them to die, in which case, good RPing!).
An exception to the exception: PCs left idle long enough to be removed to the archives may, after a month in archives, be killed in the course of plot or RP by staff. Such characters cannot usually be recovered.
Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern
Although severe restrictions on the use of the world and setting have been lifted in the last several years, this website operates within the spirit of legal restrictions once placed upon games in the Pern genre. Major book characters will not be portrayed 'on-camera.' Lesser characters may appear as NPCs written by staff.
