Character and duties
Thunder is Telgar's unofficial gambling wing. Of course any group of wingmates from any wing might get together now and then over cards or dice, but in Thunder such activities are obligatory. New recruits are trained up in the finer points of odds and betting, often made to run bookings to and from The Golden Egg and other points around Pern for their elder wingmates. Since there seems to be some wing-specific wisdom about gaming that keeps the riders lucky, chastisements for these activities are rare.
Games
Unable to outrace their greatest rival, Hail, in the arena of speed, Thunder has long chosen to focus on agility. Obstacle courses in the air and on land present little challenge to most experienced Thunder pairs. They perform well in certain other games, too - those most susceptible to cheating and buyoffs, according to some riders in other wings! It's extremely rare that a Thunder rider is actually caught doing anything underhanded, however - and any rider who does get caught can expect brutal payback from his wingmates for his clumsiness.
