“You call me sir one more time I’ll make you sit on my lap and do it,” G’tet told Silvio with a wink and a good-natured laugh. “I’m G’tet and I cannot be that much older than you are to warrant such things. Besides we’re all friends here tonight. We should be friendly.” And Silvio was spared any taunting leer with those words because G’tet was enjoying watching Aleda at the moment. Friendly indeed. As soon as he could ditch his sister and her brother.
He came to a stop once Genet had declared them done and took her plate to juggle as well while she sat down. Since she conveniently sat across from Aleda he was able to sit between them. Room enough to share his plate with his sister, but still be close enough to Aleda to be nearly cozy. And Genet was left then with space beside her for Silvio. Since the men had arrived she was spared having to reply about the girl marrying her man. Really it was the stupid girl's own fault as much as Silvio’s for agreeing to this mess. If it had been her she’d have said no.
Well, maybe not. Silvio was no grandfather like her father had wanted to marry her off too. She supposed there were likely worse men to be married too. At least he would be good to look at. Not that it was even a choice at all now. She would never marry and that was fine with her. The truth of the matter was if Silvio was gone by the time certain restrictions were lifted she had plans for someone else. After all, he’d be off doing who knows what. Why shouldn’t she get to? But that was not something to think on now. Instead she had a grin for Aleda.
“Oh, Anquilith at least will not forget you as much as Kalpeth who does not even remember me! Maybe with Anquilith’s help it will change though.” Her tone held doubt for that and G’tet chuckled. “Don’t count on it. Kal wouldn’t remember me if I weren’t her rider. It’s just part of her charm.” And lower, as he leaned over to snatch a small bit of food from Aleda’s plate he whispered to her, “You should come meet her again after dinner. She’ll be napping in the weyr.” While her brother made his intentions known to Aleda there was nothing for Genet to do but cast a longing look at Silvio. It was so not fair.

Lap? Silvio stared at G'tet for a moment round eyed and the back of his neck turned red. "G'tet," he said clearly and nodded. "You're a rider and -- her brother," the young man gestured towards Genet. "I thought it best to be respectful." He fidgeted a little and handed Aleda her plate.
"And she is very charming, your Kalpeth," Aleda said lightly, shooting a brow-raised look at Silvio. She made a little gesture with her hand, indicating that he should relax and he nodded just once, shot her a sheepish smile then folded his legs beneath him to sit down near Genet, just close enough that their knees might bump from time to time.
G'tet's mumur to her saw Aleda leaning a little closer to catch the words and then her hand reached to close around his for the thievery. "Tsk." She chided him lightly. "But I would be delighted."

“Well, now you can be respectful calling me what I want to be called,” G’tet says with a merry laugh. He was uncomfortable being called sir as he was no sir. He was a greenrider after all. Ranked only above those unlucky enough to have no dragon at all was a greenrider. “Kalpeth is the most adorable green to be found,” G’tet tells the group. Before Genet can speak up he adds, “Weyrling opinions don’t count. Especially weyrlings who expect me to swear to their weyrlingmaster they were with me the whole evening no matter if they are or not.”
Genet shot her brother a brilliant smile. “You are the best, G’tet!” The smile was turned on Silvio when he sat down and she scooted just a little closer to him. “Spice cake?” she offered as G’tet saw to pouring out wine and handing cups around. “I am so glad you are home,” she uttered then bouncing to a new topic as she turned to grin at her brother. “I missed you so much. And you owe me a new dress still. Oh. And some of the fellows you won bets off for the hatching left me the marks.” Need it be said they were all spent? Apparently not as G’tet just sighed and looked to Aleda. “Sometimes I wish I were an only child.”

"No problem," Silvio answered with a laugh this time and then beamed widely at G'tet's implication as Genet scooted over his way. "Thank you," he said for the spice cake and then decided to be atrociously adorable by breaking the piece in two and offering one half to the weyrling. With his wine settled near at hand, Silvio had to suppress a sudden snort of laughter at that sighing remark from G'tet.
Aleda, though her eyes danced with good humor, only smiled and tipped her head to the side thoughtfully. "I can see how that might be so, but as for myself and perhaps now my brother, I am happy that we have so many others to ... distract my parents."

Cutesy or not Genet was not going to pass up getting part of the piece of spice cake back. “Thank you!” she said before taking it and letting her fingers brush over his in the process while giving him a look. In a way it was becoming kind of fun. Having this secret over him like this. She could do things that would confuse him and gave her a little bit of power in things. If she were a better person maybe she’d not be thinking these things, but she was who she was. Besides what he didn’t know couldn’t hurt them. At least that was the theory. And he was the one betrothed not her. Hmph!
G’tet grinned at Aleda and shook his head. “Now see? We were smart enough to break from our family. Now there’s none of them to tell us what to do. We just look out for each other.” Which was in no way a suggestion to the other siblings. After all who knew what weirdness was involved in Caminar families? “I suppose I’m happy enough to have my twin,” he says before taking a drink from his wine. “After all now I have someone who owes me marks.”

That contact, however slight, made Silvio smile as he popped a bite of the cake into his mouth. Then he was busy chewing and reaching for his wine. He took a good swig then pronounced: "Very good, not as spicy as Caminar cake, but very tasty," he decided and licked a few crumbs from his thumb. His other hand reached for Genet's though, daring more in present company than he would otherwise. G'tet and Aleda wouldn't take him to task for being familiar with Genet.
Aleda's mouth pulled to the side, quirky with humor and yet there was something vaguely troubled in her eyes for a moment. "That must be a wonderful freedom," is what she said though, softly and thoughtfully and snuck a look over at Genet and Silvio being ... cute. Her gaze returne to G'tet and she nodded. "Family is both blessing and difficulty I suppose. But without it, how does any person know who he or she is?" She silenced herself with eating, swallowed and laughed brightly about the marks. "And may Faranth ensure that your sister repays you one day."

“Well, you’ve never shared your spice cake with me,” Genet points out with a pout that gets ruined by twinkling eyes. “I guess you owe me now.” With one hand taken, not that she was objecting, she had to eat more carefully. Or at least not eat and drink at the same time. It was frustrating holding his hand, but she coming to the conclusion that she would just have to deal with it. There was spice cake and a free evening in a new dress to enjoy.
She was feeling better about life after the confusing day. A look at G’tet told her he was feeling better about life too, but of course he was. He wasn’t sleeping alone. He laughed at what Aleda said about being repaid and wasn’t going to comment on family not wanting to delve into it, but Genet was right there to do it for him.
“You don’t need your family to know who you are. You are who you are.” She leaned forward and her fingers slipped a little from Silvio’s hand as she addressed Aleda. “What you do and how you feel and act is how you know who you are. You have to learn who you are and if your family gets in the way of that you need to move on.” Genet, of course, was willing to move on no matter what. Too many ties kept you away from adventure! “You can’t let your past keep you from your future.” It was sort of like a motto if she ever had one.

"Not yet," Silvio said with a little half grin for Genet. "I brought you pastries and spiced Caminar tea for breakfast this morning though but there was all sorts of ... craziness going on," he said slowly and ducked his head a little. "Aleda explained that things changed, but it feels like they haven't to me." Holding hands might be relatively innocent, but the way Silvio's thumb slid along the edge of Genet's fingers was decidedly not, even if discreet as affectionate gestures went.
Aleda shook her head at Genet's statement. "No, even in stepping away from your past, it is still a part of you, it's inside," and she tapped her fingers lightly above her heart. "It's always a part of who you are even if you step out into the world and change things." Still, she smiled across at the weyrling and finished off her meal, setting the plate aside with some items still untouched. Her cup she lifted and drank deep then looked out across the lake, expression thoughtful as the last of the light died and the twinkle of stars and the flicker of firelight sprang to life over by the Caminar camp.
"Perhaps tomorrow or the day after, when your duties are done, you might stop by?" she offered to Genet. "Or if you'd rather not come to the camp, I can certainly meet you outside the Weyr where I gather herbs and other medicinals even so late in the season," the sabedoria continued. "I think though that, I should like to turn in," was her conclusion and Silvio shot her something like a grateful look as he finished off his cake.

“This morning was so crazy!” Genet said with a nod. “I haven’t even gotten to tell you most of it yet! Man…if it was half as crazy for anyone else.” Her hand slid more fully back into Silvio’s as she teased him with a smile and a shift closer to him so he knee was resting right against his. “Yes, well, you don’t have to let your past tie you up now,” she told Aleda before the other woman announced her departure.
“It was so nice to meet you, Aleda. Have a pleasant evening.” The glance she gave her brother was knowing. “I’ll come by and see you in a few days,” Genet told Aleda with a more innocent look accompanied by a smile. “I know where your wagon is.” Because she’d been there, of course, at least had- or well, another thing to not stress over. Whatever had happened or not she knew how to find the sabedoria’s wagon.
Meanwhile G’tet was getting to his feet and setting his plates aside. Clearly the last ones to leave had to clean up although he’d be lucky if Genet would remember. He held his hand out for Aleda to help her up. “Let me see you to your bed,” he offered with a grin. A harmless grin really. Because after all she could change her mind and he wasn’t going to force the issue. “You kids behave,” he said to Genet and Silvio. “Don’t do anything I would do.”

"/Very/ crazy," Silvio said with a slight widening of his eyes. "And I'd like to hear more," he told her, hand tightening around hers. As she shifted closer he made to draw her hand up to his lips for a brief kiss and while the look in his eyes might not be the one she'd looked for earlier, it ought to be familiar.
Aleda chuckled and winked across at Genet. "Trust me, I have no intention of letting the past hold me back, but I would be foolish to deny that my roots are there, hm? Of course now, I find myself suddenly facing a past that was changed and partly by my own hand. I have to re-learn it and see how everything fits together again." As she took G'tet's hand and rose, she smiled up at him and then at Genet again. "It has been good to meet you too, Genet and I look forward to seeing you very soon." Humor danced brightly in her eyes at G'tet's words and she slipped her hand to the crook of his arm. He had become something steady and unchanged in her world in the past two days. She felt like she needed that right now until she could wrap her mind around how things were different. "Thank you," is what she said to the greenrider and as they slipped away she tipped a look over her shoulder at her brother. "Or do, but don't get caught," she quipped merrily and moved on.
Silvio could only laugh and laugh as the other pair vanished into the darkness, then he stacked his empty plate atop the others, before turning back towards Genet and lifted his hand to stroke back her hair from her face. "So. Just how much do you think of the things G'tet would do, we can get away with tonight?"

It was a look she would just have to be used to it. Genet was going to do her best to not ruin what she had now just because she might miss what she had before. Besides, she consoled herself with, now she had a dragon and a guy. Surely an improvement over just a guy. Men were all well and good, but they couldn’t be counted on to stick around always. I am certainly not going anywhere Anquilith told Genet from her place in the barracks. Well, of course you’re not! was Genet’s reply. No matter it’s likely the green had said the same thing yesterday to her old rider. That was the past. No matter what Aleda said you had to let go of the past.
G’tet shook his head with a grin and told Aleda, “Oh, they’d get caught. Anquilith is just not old enough. Still there’s one in every weyrling class that has to learn the hard way. If it’s Genet so be it.” She would have to learn her own lessons as much as he wanted to shield her from the worst. If she wasn’t the worst already since she was one of those few girls on green people were not used to. Putting the thought from his brain he tugged Aleda a little closer as they walked across the bowl to where Kalpeth waited.
Back where they’d been left Genet laughed more quietly. “Not as much as I would like,” she answered truthfully. The little flutter in her stomach from Silvio’s touch had gotten Anquilith’s attention and she really didn’t want to be the weyrling who had to learn the hard way. “I definitely think you should kiss me now though,” she informed him with a grin as she grabbed his hand to tug him closer. “At least twice,” she decided. “After I kiss you.” Which she then did. If she was more forward than he recalled he would just have to get used to it after all.

Though Silvio couldn't hear Anquilith, he'd gotten used to the look on Genet's face when she was talking to her green and he waited patiently until they were done. "I know," the Caminar said to her simply and took a deep breath, the expression in his eyes shading soft. "It's hard to wait," he continued and grinned as she tugged him nearer, "but worth it." Silvio was a little surprised, but not displeased in the slightest as her mouth met his. They'd been so careful, so polite up until now, it was good to let go just a bit, return that kiss, first lightly, then with slowly growing heat.
Aleda looked over at G'tet curiously. "So, dragons of a young age have trouble when their riders get close?" And the next question was perhaps logical, even as he drew her closer and her arm left his elbow and curled around his waist instead. "This is not so with older dragons though, is it?"

The smart part of Genet’s brain pointed out that making out in the bowl with Silvio was a bad idea. She shushed it up however because it was a brilliant idea. There was little chance things going too far out here. Even so she couldn’t help but be a little distracted keeping an ear out for Anquilith’s displeasure. The last thing in the world she wanted to do was upset her green. It was this thought that had her ending their kisses just as they started to get really interesting. Interesting. That was the word for it. At some point her hands had strayed from his arms to his waist and she quickly pulled those back.
It was so unfair! She could remember last night. Last night there’d been no stopping anything. “It’s not fair,” she mumbled, hoping he would take it to mean their forced waiting. She just couldn’t bring herself to explain before. Just the thought of it made her blush not that this was obvious in the darkness with cheeks already red from their kisses. “By the time we can even do anything you’ll be gone anyway,” she said as quietly, but more clearly with a whole pout in her tone.
Lessons in dragon psychology were not something G’tet had planned on giving. However that wouldn’t keep him from answering. They still had a walk in front of them. “Yes. As it was explained to me a young dragon is unable to see a physical relationship as anything but a loss of total affection on the part of their rider. They’re still just kids after all. You can’t expect a child to understand sex.” Even adults didn’t understand all the many nuances of sex after all. Happier to walk with her closer to him he chuckled quietly into the night. “An adult dragon has no problems with their rider’s exploits as a general rule. Some personalities might be less thrilled with it than others. Actually, if I recall correctly it’s not that much longer until the weyrlings will have that restriction lifted. Three or four months…I cannot recall.”
He slid his gaze over to Aleda and said, “But by then I imagine the reason for Genet’s distaste of the rule will be gone.” While the greenrider would be sad to see Aleda go he knew it was not going to be too big a deal. Women come and go and he had a whole Weyr full of men to keep him company in her absence. Not so Genet and her whole first love problem. Ah, well, nothing to do but wait and see how things played out. “But you needn’t worry about me, Aleda,” he told her in a more playful voice. “I’m a greenrider after all. Even you must know what they say about us.”

The smart part of Silvio's brain got up and took a walk far away after that second kiss. "What?" he asked her a little breathless as he surfaced from the third or fourth at her plaint of unfairness and he made himself focus on what she was actually saying while his hand cradled her cheek warmly. Her words chilled him a little and he sighed, pulled her as close as she'd let him. "It's good just to be able to spend time with you," he said softly.
Across the Bowl, halfway to Kalpeth, Aleda was listening with interest to what G'tet was saying. "How interesting," she murmured, "so they really are like children. They are so large sometimes it does not seem it would be so," the sabedoria said and chuckled lowly, leaned her head against the greenrider's shoulder. "Not so very long," she mused and was silent for a while as the conversation shifted to the imminent departure of the Caminar. "A bridge to cross when it is reached," she murmured next and then tilted her head a little to the side. "Let's not think about /then/, G'tet. Just tonight." Invitation plain in her eyes.

Truth be told if there was one thing Genet was getting tired of hearing was that they should just enjoy the time they had. It was easy for him to say that, but what about her? It was this that helped cool her ardor some so that when he pulled her close she leaned against him with some unseen distance between them like she was a hundred miles away. Possibly it could be confused for conversation with Anquilith, but there was something missing from her distraction that was usually there when she talked to her green.
Finally she tilted her head and moved around to be able to see him as they sat close. “It’s good to spend time with you, but you’ll be gone soon and then what? We keep putting off this conversation, but if we wait much longer there’ll be no time left.” They put it off because neither wanted to have it, truth be told, but Genet could not duck something forever. Not when it needed to be confronted head on. “So, what are we going to do? Just say good-bye and that’s it?”
And across the bowl with Kalpeth in sight, anxious to get her rider to his bed so she might nap more on her ledge, G’tet decided the opposite. “Just like children,” he agreed with a fond smile for his green and her trying to hurry him up. “But we can worry about draconic children and what comes tomorrow when tomorrow comes. I am definitely more interested in living tonight to its fullest.” He was no weyrling and was not restricted tonight or in the future. Even after she was gone if they so chose he could go visit her. With a bump to her hip with his he said, “Just wait a little longer and I’ll show you what I’m thinking right now.” His tone left no doubt what sorts of ideas he was having and how eager he was to put them into action.
