Name: Y'vor (Yevorin)
Gender: Male
Age: 35
Rank: Brownrider (Applying for WLM)
Wing: Thunder
Short at only 5'9 and somewhat stocky, Y'vor doesn't present much of an impressive figure, though he certainly has /presence/. This probably has to do with his confident carriage and the frequent, easy-going smile on his face. Shaggy dirty blond hair is left a little longer than usual for most riders, often drifting across the brownrider's eyes which are clear and blue. A firm, square cut jaw, balances an otherwise weak lower portion of his face, with thin lips and a dimpled chin. His nose is a little too long and hooked slightly to the right from what appears to be an old break, given the scar across the bridge. Deep-set eyes are over-arched by almost unsettlingly pale, blond brows that vanish at the ends.
Known to be easy-going and a bit of a talker, Y'vor has a way with people, of setting them at ease and getting them to talk back to him. Even so, he's known to be friendly but not necessarily a flirt. Little seems to get under Y'vor's skin, it takes a lot to move him to anger, but if one of his triggers does get hit, his temper can be explosive. When he does explode, it's brief, full of fireworks and then over swiftly. Bullies, unkindness to women and children and unfaithful spouses or weyrmates are a few of the triggers that can prompt an explosion from Y'vor.
Generosity is also a key trait for the brownrider, sometimes to a fault. Although he's known to have a talent for cards and a sunny poker face, he always seems to be short on marks because he's been giving them away to people. It's a situation that he often remedies by winning a few hands of poker, since his wing, Thunder, so readily has game available and spends so much time at The Golden Egg off-duty.
Born and raised at a cothold near Southern Telgar Hold, Y'vor is the bastard child of a holder girl and her only-passing-through Caminar lover. If he'd been raised amongst the Caminar, he would have been a rafeiro outcast, as it is, he only carries the stigma of being a bastard and a half-breed in the holder sense. With his pale looks, and lack of accent because he never learned Noestacan, Y'vor 'passes' and no one at the Weyr knows that the brownrider has Caminar blood. Nevertheless, Y'vor himself finds the Caminar fascinating and finds the lyrical pace of Noestacan to be lovely to listen to. Since the Caminar came to the Weyr he's been known to frequent the camp often, poking around at the stalls shopping, or otherwise interacting with the traveling people in his usual friendly, out-going way. Some of his wingmates probably roll their eyes and snort at this behavior while others might egg him on and try to get him to 'take a few Caminar for their good marks'.
In spite of the circumstances of his birth, Y'vor had a relatively ordinary cotholders' childhood. His mother Ienna married when he was three and he he moved out of his grandparents' cothold and went with her to live with his step-father at his slightly larger holding down the river five miles or so. There he grew up as if is his mother's husband Jefern was his own father and his younger siblings (all 6 of them) when they arrived, his full-blooded siblings. With his laid-back temperament, the worst he usually faced was a thrashing for not getting all of his chores done, because he was dawdling over the mucking or got distracted currying the runner and spent three hours on it instead of moving around the hold quickly and efficiently. Yevorin was content with his life as the eldest son, with the chores that fell to him and the duty of supporting his parents and helping with his siblings. He never longed for more with his talents seeming to lie more in the area of animal care and animal husbandry with a particularly deft touch with breeding mares and cows than hold management. For that, Jefern looked to his second son, Jenner, and it was relatively obvious when they were boys that Jenner would inherit the holdership and Yevorin would either have to come up with something else of his own or continue on as an animal handler at the cothold.
As he ambled his way through puberty, Yevorin did not develop the usual, or expected interest in girls, though he had no shortage of looks sent his way at the seasonal quarterly Gathers in the South Telgar area. He was always friendly and out-going, willing to invite multiple partners to dance, but the secret he harbored deep down inside, was that he was more drawn to the other young men at the Gathers than he was to their girlfriends or sisters. He kept this facet of himself very quiet and would likely have continued on, largely untroubled by this part of himself and 'done the right' thing and accepted the marriage his parents started looking to arrange for him when he was 17. He was engaged that mid-summer at the Gather with the intent to make good the following turn, when the girl in question was old enough to make the match, given she was only 14 when they put her hand in his.
The marriage however, was not to be, because riders came on Search from the Weyr that spring and he was brought to Telgar where he Impressed brown Serienth just a few days after his own birthday. A whole new world of possibilities opened up for Yevorin, now Y'vor, that day as he settled into the life of a Weyrling, learning to care for Serienth and how to fit into the Weyr's culture instead of the quiet holder's life he'd known before. That there were men who preferred other men as he did was quite a shock and delightful surprise to him and though his nature is a devoted one, tending more towards monogamy, he went through a phase of experimentation and exploration as a young rider just out of Weyrlinghood that left a few spots of unexpected drama in his past.
He settled down for a while with a greenrider from his own wing, Serienth having caught M'lar's green Asmirath in one of her flights, but the relationship didn't last, breaking up when M'lar stepped out not once, but several times with other riders outside of a flight. The two riders have an uneasy, but civil relationship that does not disrupt the function of the wing, largely due to Y'vor's own easy-going approach in the face of M'lar's somewhat high strung histrionics.
At present, Y'vor is single, though he does 'entertain' on occasion and he doesn't lack for fleeting companionship due to Serienth's proclivities which entail a lot of chasing and a lot of catching.
Other than Serienth's flight behavior, the pair are known to be steady and solid within the wing, with a keen grasp of the different ways that agile flyers can be used and a good understanding of the roles of the heavier flyers. His easy-going manner makes him something of a go-to man within the wing, either as a companion to gamble with, or someone to sound off to when the going gets tough.
Dragon's Name: Serienth
Color: Brown
Age: 17
Size: 20
Physical Description: One of the smallest browns in the Weyr, Serienth is a compact bundle of muscle and sinew all draped with the stark, dry tones of Igen's desert. Largely monochrome, he is dappled only in the shadowed areas of his body with a mottled grainy sheen of tan overlaying his belly, the backs of his legs and the undersides of his wings. When spread in flight, translucent wingsails take on a characteristic creaminess as light passes through them. Sturdy limbs are proportional to his body, ropy with strength and tipped with sharply curved milky sepia talons. His tail is a whipcord affair that serves to power agile moves in the air.
Personality:
A bit of a daredevil with a wicked sense of humor, Serienth balances his laid-back rider. Often the pushy one in the pair, the brown is always nudging at Y'vor to try to do things a little more quickly, to shift him out of his lazier moments of sitting around playing cards and doing not much of anything at all. On the flip side, Y'vor balances out what could be dangerous tendencies to do too much in his brown, providing that tempering influence that allows Serienth to flourish as an extremely agile, powerhouse flyer within Thunder wing. Of all the dragons in the wing, Serienth is the one most likely to give Hail a run for their money in any races, while also being a strong anchor within the agility contests that the wing specializes in. A keen chaser of all greens, Serienth is the flirt that Y'vor is not with a 'hey baby, wanna come back to my ledge and sit a while?' demeanor towards any lovely lady who'll give him the time of day.
