Name: Diron
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Rank: Holdless / Muscle for hire
Diron stands at an even 6' tall. He is slim, with well-developed legs that look like he has done more than his share of walking in his life. His features are distinctly Caminar, except for his skin which is quite pale. For some reason, no matter how long he stays out in the sun, he just will not tan, only sunburn.
Diron's hair is black. It is stringy and hangs just below shoulder length in the back. In the front, he parts it in three places - on each side of his face, and a chunk between his eyes. He tends to hide behind his hair often. His narrow eyes are light brown, with flecks of what could almost pass for red.
Diron tends to stick to simple clothing. He usually wears a pair of tattered brown pants along with whatever plain shirt he can find. When outside, he often goes shirtless.
Diron prides himself on being hard to figure out. People have often commented that they suspect he is slightly mad. He is very intense. His moods seem to be able to swing from one to the next with out much provocation. In general, he appears calm, but also to be constantly sizing you up.
His loyalties lie solely with himself. He does not trust anyone, least of all, the Caminar. Diron tends to let his guard down a little more when he is around females. He will flirt, but has never shown any genuine interest in anyone. He sees it as a game.
Diron is always thinking of ways to get the upper hand in a situation. He hates the feeling of not having control. He is always plotting, trying to stay one step ahead of everyone else around him. He calls himself "muscle for hire", and he means it. He will do pretty much anything you'll pay him for. He prefers not to bother with anything that involves killing, but will consider it for the right price. However, that price is higher than most people are willing to pay, so he has not yet had a paying job that ended up being fatal for his victims.
Despite this, he does consider himself to have some type of morals. He never hurts women or children, and he wants the full story of what is going on before he ever agrees to do something illegal. And he will sufficiently investigate to be sure what he is being told is the truth. You don't want to know what happens if he finds out he's been lied to.
Diron is a rafeiro. His mother, Kide, was a Caminar who was engaged to marry, but fell in love with a handsome (and flirtatious) Bronzerider. After nearly a Turn of occasional secret meetings with the dragonrider, Kide found herself pregnant. When her family learned of her betrayal, they sent her away. She found shelter at a small Hold and gave birth to Diron there.
They lived a relatively quiet life. The holders tended to ignore them, but that also meant that they did not give them any trouble.
When Diron turned 13, he had his first encounter with his former Caminar relatives. The travelers were passing through the area and stopped at the Hold for a short rest. They realized Diron was of mixed blood and when they saw Kide, they knew who he was. Kide's father immediately packed up his family to leave. When Kide tried to stop them so she could try to patch up the relationship between them, he turned on her. The man intended to firmly shove his daughter away from him, however he pushed her a little too roughly. She tripped backwards and cracked her head on a stone wall. The blow left her unconscious with a serious concussion.
Kide never recovered. Her Caminar relatives left the Hold by demand of the Lord Holder, and she was dead within the Sevenday. This left Diron alone at the Hold with a burning hatred for the Caminar. In his young mind, he believed that his grandfather attacked his mother and purposefully hurt her, and he has been nursing that anger since then.
Diron spent a few more turns at the minor Hold but finally left when he turned 15. Since then, he has wandered from Hold to Hold, and sometimes the Weyrs, until someone kicked him out.
He took his first life when he was 20 turns old. He had stopped at a minor Hold and was down at the stables, admiring some of the runners (He was trying to figure out the best way to steal one, but nobody else knew that at the time). A journeyman in the Beastcraft, who had been drinking quite heavily, came across Diron and upon seeing his distinct Caminar features, started harassing him. Heated words were exchanged, then a few blows. Finally the journeyman pulled out a knife. Diron pulled his out as well, and after a short tussle, he killed the man and fled.
The second time happened a few years later. He had come across a small group of Caminar making camp. He waited until nightfall and attempted to steal one of their runners. This, of course, led to a knife fight. Diron somehow managed to get away with a runner and a spattering of minor injuries. However, he had fatally wounded one of the men that had tried to stop him. He was not aware of the death until later when he overheard the gossip at a nearby Hold. Diron had not intended to kill the man, but was not particularly remorseful about it either.
The third and last time (so far) was intentional. He was among other shady characters at the time, and they had all just raided a Hold tithe shipment to the local Weyr. Most of it was junk, but there were a few nice items. One of the men tried to cheat Diron out of his fair share. Diron pointed out that he had done more than his fair share of work. The other man didn't care. A fight erupted and Diron slit the man's throat before grabbing what he claimed was rightfully his and taking off with his loot.
Since then, he's been laying low to avoid any unwanted attention. His most recent haunt is The Golden Egg, where he's making a nice profit from gambling.
The recent kidnapping of children from round Telgar has intrigued Diron, but what interests him most is the congregating of Caminar at the Weyr. He is keeping a very close eye on the situation. He is gathering his resources for a visit in the near future. He hopes to find his grandfather there and fully intends to seek out revenge for his mother's death.
