Name: T'rad
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Rank: Weyrling
Torad has straight hair that's a bit long-ish for a boy, coming around his ears and sometimes below them and his bangs normally combed out of his eyes. His eyes, however, are blue. Torad isn't considered fat nor skinny, but just the right build for his age, a medium build. He has some muscle but it's not a dominating feature. He stands around 5'8. Torad tends to wear brown trousers, with a white shirt, and varying colors of vests though the one he wears most often tending to be the green vest.
Adventurous and curious are two of the best words to describe Torad and they both developed at a very young age. Like many little children, Torad hit a stage where he became curious about the world around him, and it's something that's never left him. He also tends to be social, not really the type to seclude himself. Though he enjoys time to himself.
Torad grew up as any other weyrfolk. The son of dragonriders, that's all Torad knows of his parents. Even at a young age, Torad was somewhat adventurous and would often explore as much of the weyr as he could. He was often in trouble or in the way at a young age, his curious nature always getting the better of him. Torad had a few friends and often times they didn't help him get out of trouble, but rather helped him get in it. As he grew a bit older, around 13-14, he became less of a problem and tended to extend his curiosity towards the pursuit of knowledge, finding his nose in every book he could get his hands on. Many people who knew Torad, knew that this was just a phase he was going through however. Though they turned out not entirely right, though still finding more interest in the physical world, Torad would still read the occasional book. Perhaps this was to learn more about what it was he would discover. Torad has stood at a couple of hatchings, but never impressed. After the second time he learned not to get his hopes up and looked at a hatching as more of a systematic thing for him, something he would do periodically. If he impressed then so be it, but he wouldn't pin his hopes on it again. With the arrival of the Caminar, Torad found another subject for his curiousity. As he began hearing different things about these people, Torad thought it best to "study" them from afar. Not really having an opinion, though sympathizing with both sides of the issue, Torad prefers to simply observe them.
Dragon's Name: Paleoth
Color: Blue
Age: Hatchling
Physical Description: Blues are rarely bulky and Paleoth's breeding would have predicted no such figure, but here he is just the same: a bulky beast, all muscle and brawn. Stocky legs meet powerful haunches, supporting the breadth of his barrel chest and wide, curving back. Body and wings are a uniform shade of brushed steel blue, though soft snout, spaded tail and broad paws are tipped with a sooty charcoal. His tail's a bullwhip of sinew and his neck is likewise thick-set; it supports a heavy, handsome head where prominent browridges cast large eyes in deep shadow.
Personality: So many greens and golds are called 'moody' by their riders and those that know them. The word's less often applied to the males of the species, but few words better describes Paleoth. His highs are a delight, inspiring and energizing; when he feels good he's a source of enthusiasm and motivation to all around him. His lows, however, come with an absolute lethargy of body and spirit, and from these it can be powerfully difficult for Paleoth's rider to rouse himself, never mind his dragon. The transition between these states is often marked by a short spate of frustrated fury or stubborn determination, and failure - however small - is most likely to inspire his depressions. Thankfully these are always brief, owing to the brevity of draconic memory, and Paleoth's default state is one of urgent liveliness.
Mind Voice: One thing can certainly be said for Paleoth's 'voice': it has impact. Most blues lack such commanding depth, such powerful intensity in their mental speech. He's adept at manipulating scent and taste as well, communicating through these subtler senses when he sees fit. (Color 242442)
Inspiration: The Cretaceous–Tertiary extinction event was a large-scale mass extinction of animal and plant species in a geologically short period of time, approximately 65.5 million years ago. It is widely known as the K–T extinction and is associated with a geological signature known as the K–T boundary. Scientists theorize that the K–T extinctions were caused by one or more catastrophic events such as massive asteroid impacts or increased volcanic activity. These geological events may have reduced sunlight and hindered photosynthesis, leading to a massive disruption in Earth's ecology.
About 50% of all species became extinct. This has great significance for humans because it ended the reign of dinosaurs and opened the way for mammals to become the dominant land vertebrates.
Paleoth takes his name from Paleogene, the more modern name for the 'Tertiary' period; the name also nods to his dam, Pelegaoth.
