Name: Aderes
Gender: Female
Age: 35
Rank: Senior Weyrwoman
Tall, slim and pale, Aderes has an ethereal loveliness that's enhanced by grace of movement and by poise and posture long perfected.
She possesses an oval face with high cheek bones, a sharp, straight nose and a mouth that's full, soft and pink. Large, almond eyes are a pale blue, fringed in thick gold lashes and set beneath slender, arching brows. Blonde hair is mostly straight, with a slight and playful curl. It falls to the middle of her back when down, but it's most often swept into an elegant chignon or some intricate and complicated up do.
Sleek and slender, Aderes is willowy of form, though it's her long limbs more than her 5'8" height that makes most consider her tall for a woman. Hands are small and long-fingered, and the rough calluses that cover finger pads and palms are a sharp contrast to their refined build.
The clothes she favors are elegant, but never gaudy or excessive. Rich colors are in deep hues or pale, but the middle range, with garish brightness, is skipped over completely. Her skirts sweep to the floor and are often hemmed with simple stitched patterns. Her tops are well-fitted and her jewelry is made along clean and simple lines. Even her riding leathers have been tailored to gently accentuate her trim and feminine frame.
Polite, graceful and well spoken, the Weyrwoman Aderes reveals her Blooded roots in her day to day manners, but most especially when wining and dining among those of her former ilk. However, she has a knack for making the uncouth feel elevated in her presence, rather than inferior, and it's this skill at inclusion that's kept her relatively beloved among riders, residents and holders alike since she took the seniorship fifteen turns ago.
There is steel beneath the silk, and Aderes has done her part to help keep the tithe regular, even as the interval passes its middle point. By S'lyn's side, she dutifully saw to the daily workings of the Weyr as he tended to the larger and more important matters. She must have been watching her Weyrleader closely, because when he was unexpectedly ousted by the wet-behind-the-ears J'fel, she deftly and gently took the reins as the boy worked to gain his footing.
It has, however, been some months since that large knot settled on J'fel's slender shoulder, and there are those that begin to wonder if Aderes ever has any intention of giving those reins back.
The third child and a daughter of Lord Balan, Aderes would have never had a chance, in her home, to become much more than a prize to the highest bidder. She was certainly groomed as such from a very young age, taught all the proper manners that befit her station and, as a teen, fostered to Telgar for a pair of turns to broaden her horizons and make her more desirable, yet.
It was at Telgar that she had her first direct encounter with the Caminar. Before that summer, she had seen the traveling people from a distance when they came to Balan, but never been permitted to approach. Telgar was a larger hold, busier, and her guardians couldn't be expected to watch a fostered girl every moment of the day. So, when a dark-eyed, smoky-smiled Caminar boy charmed her into a hayloft, the stabled runners were the only ones to notice. The lovers met several times more throughout the sevens he and his caravan lingered, but they left when the wind changed directions, and Aderes had too much pride to try and convince him to remain. It is a choice she's often thought back on as the turns have gone by.
When she returned to Balan Hold in the fall, Aderes was deemed old enough to marry, and she began taking meals with visiting young Blood of other holds. With the wheels firmly in motion, no one's quite sure how it was that when Telgar's searchriders arrived, Aderes was standing among the girls of lesser ranking that had been selected as acceptable losses. When she was chosen, her family couldn't very well say they hadn't meant for her to be an option, and when the lean and amber-hued Pelegaoth chose her on the sands, there was nothing more to be done.
Weyrlinghood passed uneventfully, save that the current senior stepped down only months after Aderes graduated. During the intervals, fewer queens were produced and it was sometimes customary for juniors to transfer to Weyrs in better standing with their holders, or with fewer golds, so as to keep relations stronger. This had Aderes as the only other Weyrwoman at Telgar, and Pelegaoth's first flight found her Senior beside the staid and reliable S'lyn.
If Aderes had harbored any hope that the life of a Weyrwoman would differ from that of a married woman, it was soundly squelched by S'lyn's approach to Weyr politics. There was man's work and woman's work and never the twain shall meet. Certainly not when his lady was barely more than a girl herself.
The pair led well enough, and perhaps things would have gone on that way if it hadn't been for the flood of Caminar. S'lyn was already planning to implement a policy that would toss the lingering traders out on their collective ear when Pelegaoth rose and it was J'fel's Jordeth that caught.
One can only assume, after all those turns of having it easy, that Aderes must find it quite a strain to take up the mantel of a Weyrleader's tasks as the young man who holds that title continues to learn the ins and out of his new station.
Dragon's Name: Pelegaoth (Peh-leh-JAYTH)
Color: Gold
Age: 17
Physical Description: The color of burnt honey or aged amber, Pelegaoth is long and lean with a whipcord sleekness that's nearly excessive. Her head is a sharp wedge, her eyes, though not overly large, seeming so for the narrowness of her face. Long headknobs sweep back and a sinuous neck leads to a skinny torso with ribs that can be seen just faintly beneath shining hide and wiry muscle. Her legs end in dainty paws with dark, burnished talons. Her long tail snakes out behind her and wings, when opened, reveal sails of a brighter and more polished gold between the darker spars.
Personality: A subtle creature, Pelegaoth is all suggestions and murmurs. She prefers to set things in motion and watch others bring her goals about. A queen must know her Weyr and, more, must control it without seeming to do any such thing. She is an opportunist, and not an especially moral one at that.
